Seriously I hate Cheez-its, usually.
But just the mention brings back days of satisfying the munchies.
Haven't seen 'em anywhere here. |

Right now I kill for some Zesty Cheese Doritos (Canadian). Oh well... less than a month to go until home leave! |

OP, have you tried any of the red door stores in Itaewon or the import market in Namdaemun? |

I went to Red Door and didn't see it. I'll check out Namdaemun though. |

WHAT! WHERE? What E-Mart?... what city?
There's an E-mart in my town but they don't carry Zesty Cheese Doritos.
Along the same, 'junk food' line... many months ago, Lays Potato Chips (made in China) suddenly showed up in all the stores in my town. They were promoted for a short while. I loved them - they were great (much better than K-potato chips)! After the initial 'promo.' the supply dried up and was never replaced.
Is this the same everywhere (no Lays anymore)?

Michael Breen, a British journalist, quotes a foreign banker who worked closely with a chaebol as saying:
Quote: |
"... Koreans are so predatory and nationalistic. They have a closed economy and a zero-sum attitude to trade. Protectionism in the early stages of an economy is not unreasonable. But in the case of Korea it is almost a religious doctrine to keep foreign things out. If you buy a foreign car, you're seen as a traitor. They pick narrow industrial sectors and all jump in like copycats. If I see a Korean sports team, I root for the other side. Why? Because they're so full of themselves that they leave no room for other parties to participate and enjoy themselves. The 1988 Olympics was worse than the Hitler Games of 1936. Dealing with Koreans is like dealing with bright adolescents. They're full of energy and want to do everything yesterday. But they throw tantrums and are prone to dangerous and erratic behaviour if their whims are not indulged. In most countries, intellectuals become universal. You learn that great ideas and values have no national boundaries. What is profoundly disturbing is that Korean intellectuals become more xenophobic and nationalistic, and perpetuate the idea that all of Korea's problems are the result of wilfulness by foreigners...." |

Even in a thread about Cheezits that Breen quote comes up. Stellar. Thanks for the replies. |

Anyway, about CHEEZ-ITS, I don't think you'll find them. I looked several places in Korea (they used to have them, now haven't for close to a year). Same deal in China. Used to have them, now haven't for close to a year.
I don't know why, but the time line's the same. I would imagine there's a bigger markup on crap like "Nips" and other substitutes.
I used to eat 2-3 boxes of them a week, it wasn't like they weren't making money off me (and I've got the belly to prove it) |

I bought a packet of Cheezels in Singapore on the way home from the pub and ate them in bed. I woke up with crumbs in the bed. They were delicious. |

I have seen them there before most definitely. Her stock turns over fairly quickly, so it might be worth a second look. |
