Did the Mugwumps name themselves after fictional creatures that were in" Naked Lunch" a drug induced book writen by William S Burroughs.

Here's some that not many people have heard of

Bunchofvckingoofs- An infamous Toronto hardcore punk band that operated a speakeasy in Kensington market. The place is quite easily the filthiest place I've ever been.

The Diodes- First ever Canadian Punk band there famous hit was
"I'm tired of waking up tired"

The Poles- Famous Toronto punk group that appeared in a 1977 CBC
special hosted by Hanna Gartner.

The Viletones- Famous Toronto punk band. Lead singer told reporter Hanna Gartner that he wasn't afraid to stab someone. He also showed her a screwdriver and told her he thought it was a better weapon than a knife.

Heard the Weasels before. I used to manage punk and hardcore bands back in the day, so I know of a few esoteric groups.

I'm pretty mainstream I guess, but the ten or so bands/ musicians I think really under-appreciated are:

1) the Victim's Family (west coast punk from the 80's--early 90's)
2) Nomeansno (only the andy kerr stuff is worth my time)
3) the Ex (wierd dutch anarchists who play pots and pans and stuff)
4) Jolie Holland (hardly obscure folky type, her first two albums are great--later stuff all pretty sucky tho)
5) the Boards of Canada (well known to fans of that kind of music--downtempo disturbo-electro, I dunno what the hell you call it--a bit aphex twin, maybe? but spookier? I dunno.)
6) Coldplay (these guys are so rad, they should be famous, I don't know why they aren't on tv all the time or married to boring celebrities)
7) Lionel Bellasco (old euro-bluesy guitar stuff, a little django reinhardt-ish)
Cool Copa Salvo (Japanese carribean jazz, difficult to find)
9) Blood Red Shoes (Semi-twee British guitar punk...kinda whitestripes, but the girl can actually sing a bit. thanks again, rumdiary!)
10) I have no number ten

I've only heard one thing by the Blood Red Shoes, but liked it a fair bit

as for this:

I find them a bit overrated, and isn't one of them married to Gwenyth Paltrow?

Santogold-I'm saddened by the fact that they're now a bump on MTV. Regardless, that's a solid band. And I'm surprised by how few people know of them.

Coheed and Cambria- Why haven't you heard of this band? They rule.

I know alot of people have heard o them, but those that haven't, by the way, Arcade Fire is the finest Canadian band, well... EVER. Fumps Loverboy. Fumps Loverboy.

hahahahha. I know them. My best friend literally got them signed. Carlos is an interesting guy. I think one of their songs is on the new Guitar Hero commercial? It sounds like Carlos, anyway.
