My friend is on a longterm visit to Korea, and has a hankering to be on Korean tv in a zany capacity. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about auditioning or where to go to pitch an idea? Any help would be appreciated.
-cheers. |

Stand outside the doors to KBS and jump around like Isaac Durst on crack. |

what's that guy's name .. ah, seen him around on facebook. he's an actor and I think manager in some ways. he semi-regularly posts things like audition info around.. I'm actually not too sure though.
Name's Michael F Arnold. he's got thousands of friends on his list, so I kinda doubt he replies to private messages, but who knows he might. I haven't tried.
He's acted in lots of things ~_~ Surprise (sunday mornings) is one he frequents. |

join an agency, such as dobe entertainment, or one of the other ones aimed at foreign actors. there's all kinds of work for foreigners trying to get on tv.. you don't even have to be handsome/pretty or talented in any way at all. the only thing is, these days they're much stricter on visas (since those guys on welcome to dongmakgol got busted), so its much much easier if you're married to a korean. i had a part in a film but got dropped due to visa regulations (the other foreign character was played by that arnold guy mentioned before, its ok for him since his wife is korean).
anyway, always check the main job websites for waygooks in korea, such as worknplay, korea herald, etc. often there are adverts on there. i'm sure anyone who really tried hard to make a living out of it could do it, because they aren't exactly picky with casting. keep checking the websites, and its better if you have your visa situation in order.. oh and don't bother with surprise, i heard the money is terrible and they really make you work for it. |

I did a little extra work on MBC. They will hire ANYONE*, regardless of visa (as long as they are not illegal). If you PM me the guys details I could send the casting manager an email.
*provided you are a) white, b) you have a pulse, and c) you can make it appear as if you can speak English. |

Michael F Arnold runs an agency but has no biz permit, so if you work with him, you take the chance of deportation.
He is the same as other agents, lying, deceptive and full of sh@@.
He is married to a Korean so he has an F2 visa, which allows him to do some of that kind of work.
You should probably follow the first suggestion and hit the KBS building. |

Act like a Korean man: Drink all night, talk to and dance with Korean women and go to Hongdae. |

Then I guess it's not regardless of visa, is it? |

If you're decent looking, they'll want ya. The question is, will they bother to get a tmp visa for you or not.
Basically, if you don't have permission from Immi (or an F visa), you're running the risk of getting caught.
FYI, TV sucks. CFs and Movies are where the money is at. |

Although I don't know for certain if Mike Arnold has a biz permit, he's pretty good to work with. I've worked with him for a few years now and I've always been paid. He's most honest than most.... |

I too have worked with him for years... yet have not always been paid.
As a person, he's a very nice guy. I like him, and I like to talk to him.
But as an agent, he does not always have your back.
And if he's reading this, he'll know what I mean. |

Is your friend hot? and is he Blonde? that would be a bonus..
I'm generalising but one things for sure if he's good looking they'd give him a chance.
Try loitering around KBS as suggested.. or do something to catch media attention.. swimsuit shoot at city hall? |

Oh, sorry, I didn't know that. I guess you have to be careful whoever you're working with, especially in that industry....
I'd like to reiterate what CC said...if you don't have the proper visa, be very, very careful. I advise my friends who express interest in TV (even the hot ones) not to bother unless the agent's willing to get them the visa. It's not worth it!! |

There are several types of visas. It doesn't matter which type of visa you have, as long as you have one. |
