But we're at school. Yes, it's a red July 17th on our 2008 office calendar and everyone in my school office are taking a second look at it as it was a holiday up until this year. It's been said before that becuase Korea is slowly adapting to a 5 day work week, holidays will be gradually dropped which started last year with Arbor day and then this year with Constitution day.

Everyone knows the government dropped today as a holiday and they are not happy about it since they have to work this Saturday too. Good thing they'll get to take 9 days off for Chuseok this year as they derserve some time off. I hope they close the school for a break when the students begin their vacation in 1 week.

That's too bad the number of holidays is decreasing. Next year, Korea will have even fewer with Chuseok and National Foundation day falling at the same time and Chuseok only being 2 days long.

Get to work. Plant a tree on your own time.

9 days off. What a ghost town of a country.

Korea should have more national holidays and not less. More of them should be on a Monday or a Friday. 뻔한 스토리

Which ones did they drop? As far as I know the plans were to drop 2:

- tree planting day (went away a couple years ago)

- one of their four independence day (constitution day, the USA nuked japan day, the day off you got because of a mythical story that involves bestiality, and koreans died so other koreans could dump trash on the ground day).

We used to get Armed Forces Day and Sky Opening Day which were both at the beginning of October.

"They" being the key word. Something tells me my white ass isn't getting 9 days off.

Most people will get the weekend plus 1 or 2 days off. The OP just lucked out, and I guess the OP's school has something planned that doesn't require the OP's attendance.
