I tried the search engines and kept getting "your search didn't blah blah" Can someone recommend any good, clean hotels for Hong Kong & Bangkok please? Thanks!

what's your budget? If it is as low as mine, I recommend Suk 11 for Bankgok.

With that price range you can get anything up to about 4* on the Kowloon side of the harbor, 3* on the HK side.

What are your plans - Disneyland you will want to be away from the city, market shopping, then the golden mile in Kowloon.

In the greater HK area you will find that by and large the prices are about 20% lower on the Kowloon side of the harbor for the same quality.

Google is your friend and price shop the hotel's own websites. I have got stays at the Marco-polo and other similar hotels for as low as 60 per night even though their usual rack rate is about double that.

South Pacific Hotel Hong Kong is about 80 and I liked it.
YMCA International House is about the same and right next to the harbor.
Same for the Ramada.
the The Kowloon Hotel (5*) is about 100 per night (regular rate) and 1 block away from the art and convention center and the MTR but the rooms are tiny.

We stayed five nights at Royal View Hotel Hong Kong. It is a not that close to the the city center, but we liked it that way and will probably stay there again.

The good things of this hotel:

- quiet
- quite new
- free minibus service to closest MRT and Kowloon
- airport is not that far
- staff was really helpful

The normal price is quite high, but use http://www.ratestogo.com and the prices are suddenly very reasonable.

I have also stayed at the Gold Coast Hotel. This hotel/spa is further away, but the public busses and taxi are easy to use. Check it out if out want to lay by the pool area which is really nice.

I just came back a couple of weeks ago from HK. The shopping was not good. I also came for the shopping, but it was way too expensive. I can still get better deals at a mall in the states than here in Korea or HK. I liked H&M, they're everywhere in HK. I hear the only time to go is during the end of the year sale in December, when everything is on sale.

The hotels are expensive as well. I stayed at the Anne Black YWCA house in Mong Kong East, Kowloon. It was a little far from everything, but close enough to the Ladies market and cheap, counterfeit stuff. Plus, it was clean and the staff were friendly. My friends stayed at the Chung King Mansions and the star house, they said it was dodgy and dirty. I recommend the Yes Inn, a hostel at the Fortress Hill station exit. It was clean and really nice, cheap too.

Cheers.

Double agreed

I wasn't that impressed with HK, past the cleanliness of the city and the skyline.
