well Im going to buy a new pc so what do you think..
quad or dual?
Ati or Nvidia etc
if you have any tips on cpus, gpus, cases, etc
Id love to hear it..

Anyways, these days I am liking:
Intel E8400 or Q6600
X38 chipset Crossfire motherboard w. 2 - 16x PCI-e 2.0 slots
2 - ATi 4850 video cards
2x2gb ram
700W PSu
and whatever you want in terms of storage space |

I dunno about crossfire. The drivers are pretty weak at this point. It actually costs you performance in some pretty major games. If you were going to drop the cash for two cards plus the excess for a Xfire MB I reckon you'd be better off just going for one 4870.
Driver support may improve, but at this point Xfire is well behind SLI.
EDIT: Also, the current stock cooler Radeons are fking hot - pushing 90 degrees centigrade under load. Two of those in a case is gonna be seriously toasty. |

I beg to differ, xfire is kickin serious a$$ these days, but that is another topic. Realistically though, if you are playing at a res of 1920x1200 or less, a single 4870 should sufice.

If you live in Korea and you want a quiet PC then you're gonna have to think Zalman.
I'd use a Zalman 9700 CPU cooler with an E8400. The Zalman 600/700/850 watt PSU and an HD4870 with a Zalman fan on it.
Sounds like I'm a total Zalman fan-boy. I'm not. Their stuff is not the best out there by a long shot. But they are cheap and easy to find in Korea. And they do their job.
A passively cooled motherboard, of course. The Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 is a fast mobo with two PCIe-16 slots in case you want to add another GPU later. Pricey, though. Around 240,000.
Whatever mobo you choose, it won't support the new Intel Nehalem CPU being released later this year. That's going to need all new mobo's with a new socket. But early reports are that these processors are wicked fast. Insanely fast. So it's a bad time to buy a motherboard. You'll not be able to use the big new chip on it.
Two 4850's mentioned above have been shown to be faster than a GTX280 in most games. ATI have improved their Crossfire drivers a lot. Those drivers are expected to be made even better in the next few months because a lot of people are buying dual card set-up's.
Of course, dual GPU's will be noisier.
RAM? I think modern PC applications need more than 2GB's. I came out of Crysis abruptly once to find that it was using 2.6GB of memory!!! Just that game! Software and games will only become more RAM-hungry. Not less. Time to go 4GB. Ram is cheap now anyway.
So that means going X64 with Vista or XP and sticking 4gb or 8gb in there. Vista Ultimate x64 has been working great for me. |

Agreed. The Q6700 is a poor choice. It's 80,000 more than the E8400. It's an aging architecture. It's 65nm, therefore power hungry. Plus, if I wanted a 65nm Quad Core I'd just get the Q6600 for 60,000 less and just OC it a touch to get the same performance as a Q6700.
The E8400 is 45nm. It runs very cool so you need very little RPM's from the CPU cooler. This cuts down noise. Plus, it will save you $$$ on the electricity bill. If you don't care about saving $$$ then you can OC the E8400 through the roof. 4ghz is easy to achieve on air if you have good RAM and decent mobo.
An E8400/P35/HD4870 set-up will be powerful enough for just about anything out there. As Justjohn said, the money saved would be better spent on a quality 26'' (or more) monitor. You'll really enjoy those movies and games. |

but the e8400 is not quad core right?
shouldnt I just spend another 100bucks and get quad?
or will dualcore be enough with 4gigs of ram?
im not extreme gaming.. but I do a lot of multi tasking, video editing, downloading, playing music, watching videos, all at the same time hahahaha
anyone know any good monitors?

| No problem...u can get 4g ram clock 4 for around 100,000. Also, 600w zalman power supply is about the same price, E8400 is a sweet cpu....180,000 is a good price, IMHO. |

| If you want to compile videos and game at the same time on a regular basis then you might want to go for quad core. Just gaming, and moderate multitasking - go with the 8400. |

why is power supply so important?
I mean a 10.000 won power supply does the job fine..
I have had expensive supplies, and cheap ones.. never found any difference... whats the reason for good power supply?
especially when you say its the most important thing.. |
