I have a friend who is somewhat of a pot head but is a good teacher. So do they actually test for pot or not? Still not very clear on the answer. Whether he comes or not depends on this. |

The answer is that they might or they might not test for it depending on where he gets tested. If he intends to go on chuffing while over here then he probably shouldn't come as the penalties make it not worth the risk. |

Awful answer.
Better answer: Get to a hospital that can communicate with you. Severance hospital next to Yonsei is one of them. They will test only what you ask them to test.
Also, smoking pot outside of Korea isn't against Korean law. |

I don't think smoking it is illegal, but failing a piss test is illegal. |

Ok, this was meant for foreigners, but to clarify:
If you are foreigner, smoking marijuana (or doing other things outside of Korea that would be illegal do to inside Korea) is not against Korean law. You might be breaking another country's law, but not Korea's.
If you are Korean, it's different. Korea can punish Korean citizens for smoking marijuana outside of Korea when they return to Korean and if they are stupid enough to show proof of it (as a blog or website documenting their behavior).
Another step ahead, stay with me: If you fail a drug test, and are a foreigner, Korean police have taken into account your travels before the drug test. This comes from previous expats in Korea who were drug tested in Korea and had to deal with the law. This was due to narcs, not immigration drug tests.
Another step ahead: If you smoke weed in Korea you are asking for trouble, as well as more prices and risk than its worth. But if you smoke outside of Korea, even legally in other countries, and come to Korea on an E-2 visa, you do not have to submit to a marijuana drug test for the Korean government.
If your hospital tests for it, or doesn't know what they testing for, find a different hospital if you think you may come up dirty.
Here's a better option: You have 90 days to get your ARC. Come to Korea, don't smoke weed, take the test after you have time to rid your system, and even if the dumbass hospital does test you, you are clean. You broke no Korean law, you have a sparkling drug test and there is no hassle.
Here's the best option: Come to Korea clean in the first place. |
