This is pretty crazy. I really don't know much about Britain, but between this and the story about the parents going off on a guy for taking photos of his kids in a park, I'm starting to get a really bad impression. There must now exist quite a void between classes.

That some such things can and do happen is sad but no surprise. That they and many other things can be stirred up and blown out of all proportion is still sadder and still less of a surprise.

Mises above offers this much, "A collapsing society". Well, I don't know his or her nationality but I'm willing to take a guess that he or she is British. If so, it is THIS that is evidence of the collapse of what we may call a society.

We Britons like to moan and complain that things aren't quite as cheery and rosy as they used to be. However, the biggest problem facing our society (the British one, that is) is the unwillingness of our citizens to stand up and fight (in an entirely non-combative way!) to make it the kind of place we want to live in.

The kids are running amok on our streets? Well, bloody well DO something to at least contribute to make it better. DON'T just sit there at your computer, whining about how things aint what they used to be!

Let's all join the BNP!!

I'm honestly starting to think a serious dose of Fascism is the only hope for our God-forsaken nation...

Really... have you seen all the Brit films recently? Depressing...

Outlaw: Chav scum out of control. Vigilantes fight back but fail miserably.
Children of men: GB overrun by dirty foreigners, horrendeous controlling nanny state...

And they are supposed to be fictional, bloody hell. Looks like old Kubrick was right to self-censor 'A Clockwork Orange' a bit close to the bone eh?

I don't know, I really don't. (Shakes head makes tutting noises).

It's probably 10% fabrication, 90% sensationalism.

Read your own country's press cuttings and then get back to us.

Or collapsing societal values. Or proliferation of the left and the celebration of multiculturalism. Toronto ain't much better:

I feel safer when cops have tasers. Call me old fashioned, but I respect the police and do what they tell me. (In the US anyways) Or perhaps it's because I'm afraid to get tazed and arrested. It seems like British police are hesitant to assert their power (if thay have any), while a Kansas state trooper would have zero tolerance and take control.

I loathe hippies.

Unless anything equals the riots of the 1980s, I don't think anything odd is going on.

This town, is coming like a ghost town
All the clubs have been closed down
This place, is coming like a ghost town
Bands won't play no more
too much fighting on the dance floor

Do you remember the good old days
Before the ghost town?
We danced and sang,
And the music played inna de boomtown

This town, is coming like a ghost town
Why must the youth fight against themselves?
Government leaving the youth on the shelf
This place, is coming like a ghost town
No job to be found in this country
Can't go on no more
The people getting angry

This town, is coming like a ghost town

This kind of thought process reminds of my time in Korea.

Yes!

and yes!

If you read and stare and the rubbish that the British media pumps out then you'll believe that you can't step outside the door without being stabbed or raped. Terrorists...paedophiles......rapists.....

I had a fairly negative image of Britain over the last year until I went back last month. I came back from England thinking it wasn't so bad. It has problems, but where doesn't? The sensationalism in the media is unreal. Anything but anything will be written about, if it'll sell newspapers. All you need to do is not read this crap and then you'll have a happy life.

Name a country that wouldn't be perceived to be a collapsing society if you had this kind of negative media coverage.

I heard a rumor that they were banning samurai swords in the UK because all these people were getting arms and legs cut off. Although, it could have just been an urban legend because 80 people getting parts chopped off would have made international news.
