|
|
Okay, I have gained an awful amount of weight since I've been here. Somehow its all in my gut! I've sworn off alcohol. No more. I've joined a gym.
Does anyone have a workout regime and diet plan that has paid off for them?
I eat mostly Korean food, but I don't know how they do it because that rice must go straight to my fat cells.
I do like lifting weights so if anyone has a weigtlifting plan I'm hoping that that does the trick.

Yep, stop drinking beer. If you want to drink, get a bottle of whiskey or other hard liquor and mix it equal parts with regular or fizzy mineral water and a squeeze of lemon to get the lowest calorie buzz. I drank beer last year 3 or 4 nights a week and gained 30 pounds in 6 months and have lost 40 pounds since I quit beer last November. 10 of those pounds, I've lost in the past 3 1/2 weeks of being back in Korea. Now I only have a drink of whiskey on Friday or Saturday night or both, but not Sunday through Thursday. Walking around while slightly hungry like I am turns you into a fat burning machine. You can still eat tasty foods like pizza and sandwichs, but only in moderation. Let yourself get hungry before eating a thing.
Eat a light breakfast of cereal or oats, eat a light Korean lunch, avoid all fast food, eat a moderately sized dinner of something tasty like a steak and potato with salad, and avoid late evening munching. Drink water and juice, but not artificial sugar drinks like cola. Bye bye fat... |

- stop drinking beer (you already did, good)
- only drink water (no juice or soda)
-do LOTS of cardio at the gym (run, walk, whatever, like 30-45 min each time)
-keep doing the weights
-eat more fruits + veggies, less white rice. |

This weight lifting program was posted by a Dave's poster, and I tried it and like it.
http://www.geocities.com/elitemadcow1/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm#Possible_Issues:
If you haven't squatted before (it's mostly based on squats and full body lifts), you might want to start with a beginner program here.
http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/
One thing is you need a squat rack (DON"T use a smith machine for your squats if you use the program. ) or you're going to have to clean and front squat. Advice on that here.
http://stronglifts.com/ways-to-squat-when-you-dont-have-a-squat-rack/
When you do full body lifts like these, you increase the testorone in your body and it means you're making more muscle and burning more fat. It's more efficient that say, doing bicep curls.
If you cardio train, I suggest interval training. Very high intensity sprinting for 2 minutes, 2 minutes jogging/walking, repeat. If that's a bit tough 1 minute to 3 minutes to start.
For diet, I fell in love with go chu chang. I just eat all manner of veggies with go chu chang plus a lean protein, for every meal. I don't eat out any more (bossam on special occasions). |

Mate, just dont try implementing too many changes at once because i promise you it wont last.
1. do combined training in the gym; weights and cardio, this will make you shit weight.
2. dont eat after 6-7pm
3. drink vodka and soda water if you go out on the piss (about half the calories of beer, but not as much less as you'd think.)
4. dont drink any fizzy pop or anything like the other guy said, just stick to water. |

thanks for the advice.
Okay, bye bye juice. I've kicked soda, but replaced it with juice. Since juice is a no no how about power aide?
I've bought oatmeal for breakfast.
Can anyone tell me how much salt is in korean food? I don't put salt in anything, but I got my blood pressure checked and its way way too high.
Do you guys make most of your meals?
So far i've been eating only half the rice with my korean food, but even that's too much I think. Most places don't seem to have the brown rice. I'll start ordering the gu chu chang and see how that goes.
I'll try to find a nice fish place near gangnam too.
I forgot to mention I work 3 to 10pm which sucks for eating. I'm usually starving after work and eat, but then i'm going to bed soon after that.
Thanks again for the tips and the links. |

Buy yourself a bike and ride it everyday. Make the effort to leave 1/3 of whatever goes on your plate right where it is...believe me you won't miss it. Eat as many fresh foods as you can. A potato from the microwave is easy to prepare and will taste as good as anything processed once you get processed food out of your diet. Small changes like this will make a difference in a couple of months but don't expect rapid changes. If you want to get thin and stay thin you need to make reasonable changes you can live with for the next 40-60 years of your life, otherwise plan on Mr. Gut coming right back to you. |

Great advice here people. I've noticed when I stop drinking beer for a week, my face gets less "puffy" and my gut gets smaller. Even a week without beer has a positive effect.
However, I have a question... something I was really wondering about. I ate tons of carbs (spaghetti and bread) when I lived in Canada. But when I moved here, I started eating more of that sticky rice than I ever did before. However, I think I still eat the same AMOUNT of carbs. Is it possible that my body was just used to digesting THOSE kinds of carbs and not THESE kinds of carbs? Perhaps my body can't digest rice as well? I'm curious about this, as I suspect rice may be a part of my belly-growth. |

dude, ditch the bloody juice/soda crap, drink water; water water water, put a slice of lemon or lime in it to make it less boring, but mate, drinking juice and soda is one of the most effective ways to add calories to your general diet.
Oh and ignore the crap about rice; theres nothing wrong with it, thats north americans talking from a post health enlightenment perspective which has demonised foods that people have been eating and living on perfectly well for a long time (ref. all this 'GI' crap/Atkins crap). brown is healthier but white aint gonna kill you, look around you how many fat asians do you see? The fat ones you do see are going to Macdonalds; it aint cus of white rice. |

I joined boxing 3 months ago...2 hour workout everyday...I am the same weight as I was when I joined but have no Grinch belly now, and tons more energy...I think I have sweat out everything with regards to fat...
I still drink beer, juice, soda, and eat ice cream cones everyday cause they are 50% off, as well as tons of cheese....haven't changed my ever crappy diet.
I have the metabolism of a young buck squirrel hunting for nuts before winter though...
Gyms are too boring, and I don't like wearing pajamas and so judo, taekwondo, and hapkido were out...
Might i suggest you find something that makes you feel good, and is enjoyable, as well as rewarding...and you will be more likely to both stick with it and lose your belly... |
