|
|
I normally download everything I ever need from rapidshare and get speeds of around 800kb/s. So I haven't really ever used utorrent as I can usually find every movie, music, app or whatever on rapidshare. Whenever I tried to get a torrent I got stupidly slow speeds.
I have just tried it again today and got better speeds, around 100kb/s but this still seems pretty slow. Any tips to get it faster? |

thanks, I'll check that out later.
Does your ratio really effect anything or does that only matter if you are using certain websites? |

Only if it's a private tracker that requires u to maintain a certain ratio by seeding...if u go under the requirement they usually limit ur acct to seeding only, if it gets too bad they might ban u. |

ok, so downloading something from minova, there is no real worry about keeping the file for seeding but if it' from thebox.bz or similar then it's a good idea to seed it. |

Timing. You want fast you need to grab it when it gets released. I like to dl TV shows and I keep and eye on what I want and I get that day or the next. After a few days the speed goes down. If you grab a torrent that is a few months old it will likely be slow as most good seeders will be gone and anybody still seeding is likely slowed the torrent to suit there needs.
Also make sure (when you can) allow DHT networking as this allows to connect more seeds and peers. I think it usually on by default. Some private torrent sites do not allow DHT.
Check to see what else you are downloading. Some people like to run two file sharing progs - ex one bittorrent and one network p2p prog like bearshare. These can conflict. Choose one and close the other
and of course Port Forwarding make sure you hub or modem is allowing you bittorrent port.
One prob is what OS you are running XP with SP2 has a problem with TCP connections. After running many torrents many TCP connection get opened and do not close properly and then speed can start to suffer as many new connections are not made. Check out http://www.lvllord.de/ for an unofficial patch. That helped me in the past. |

It depends on how many people are seeding.
If it's some obscure thing with 1 or 2 people seeding you're going to get extremely low speeds. If it's yesterday's "Colbert Report" you'll get it in 10 minutes. |
