I am a current E-2 visa holder that will be changing jobs soon. I have my Letter of Appointment and contract from SMOE and will be submitting the necessary documents to the consulate in Atlanta while I am home visiting my family next month to acquire my new visa.

I talked with the consulate in Atlanta last night and she says that I have to submit transcripts to her as well. I already submitted those to SMOE in order to get the appointment letter. Why would she possibly need my transcripts after they have already been submitted and accepted by SMOE?

It makes no mention on the acceptance from SMOE of having to provide the consulate with transcripts.

Does anyone have any insight or experience with this?

If that's what the consulate says, it doesn't really matter what anyone on here says. Suck it up, order some more transcripts, or find a different consulate.

You are right about sucking it up. I have already arranged for that. I was just curious if anyone else had to do the same thing. The consulate was very typical in that she didn't listen to the circumstances of the situation, but had her agenda that she stuck by only. I didn't send any transcripts to the same consulate office several years ago when I applied for my visa then.

This was changed earlier this year as I was instructed to send one copy of a sealed transcript to the consulate and then bring another to Korea with me. Instead of bringing one to Korea, SMOE had you send it. I did this a month and a half ago.

Things work slightly different whether you're going SMOE, EPIK, GEPIK, or hagwon, but in the end all the same documents are needed and used in the same fashion. The real difference is immi issues a visa confirmation number for hagwon visas while public school issues letters of appointment for the visa.

Thanks for the input. I am in Korea currently and applied with SMOE directly. I gave them the only sealed copy in my possession at that time. It seems inevitable that the consulate has to have a copy as well. Thanks again for the insight.

you've probably already resolved this issue, but i also go through the consulate in atlanta and had to send in my transcripts. i was wondering the relevance of it, too, especially as a returnee who has sent in countless transcripts (and received visas from ATL in the past). they're only looking for one, so at least we've got that going for us. Confused
