...I figured I'd spread the word when we do something good for the world. Hopefully I won't start yet another political debate here...

They're enriching cronies of the regime while effecting the brutal murder by poisoning of millions of people under the guise of treating a virus that doesn't even exist. Death to Amerika.

The other side of PEPFAR. Lets hope they have listened to HIV practitioners and have taken their comments on board with this extension.

Abstinence and monogamy can help stop infection but only if youre able to negotiate your sexual relationships, which many in the world cannot. If your husband sleeps around and then rapes you; if you are a child abused by male relatives; if you are forced into unsafe prostitution because of poverty or violence .....etc. and sadly etc.

I have many friends working in the HIV field who appreciate the US funding but wish that the restrictions could be lifted to enable them, as professionals within their countries, to decide how best to target the spend. What works in Uganda does not work in other countries and approaches must be informed by local culture and circumstances.

I agree with this except the absolutely batshit crazy part, which unfortunately is all of it.

much of my assessment of what western governments do in africa hinges on 2 things.

first

"what can we take?"

second

"what can we get away with?"

anyone who doesn't see the future of africa as being something less like colonization and more like the matrix is a fool.

Just remember, no good deed ever goes unpunished. Next I hear they're planning a protest to mark the anniversary of America's entry into WWII...

HIV is way over estimated in Africa. This is a major and disgusting improper allocation of finite medical resources. In Uganda, for example, HIV/AIDS accounts for 4% of mortality and 25% of medical bucks.

AIDS is/was the first politically correct disease whereby leftwing social dogma squashed good science.

So... what do you think the U.S. government is trying to take by spending billions upon billions to fight AIDS in Africa (and other places)? Not being sarcastic... just curious.

a) I'm Canadian
b) The world is way better off with America than it would be without.

I got to make this point. The USA is the only nation on earth and in history, that, at the end of WWII, could have the whole world in grips, could have troops in every important part of the world, could have the sole ability to wipe out any nation that wanted said troops out and yet chose to simply give the world back to itself and left money, food, and babies with a claim to a future green card. Really, compare what Russia did to the territory it owned. Compare even how long it took the British to get out of its colonies.

America is a fine nation. Sometimes its leaders suck.

That said. Ah hem. When you are the only remaining super power, when you choose to ring the world with nuclear weapons, when you really do have the power to wipe out any nation at a whim, you do have to accept you're going to be held to a very very high standard.

We hold cops to higher standards. We hold teachers and doctors and judges to higher standards.

Same same.
