|
|
Hello. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good hairdresser open on Sunday in Seoul. I don't want to go too far from the center of Seoul. We'll be staying somewhere between Seoul center and the Childrens park.
It's not for me. I'm almost bald. It's for my wife. She has beautiful hair to her lower back and she doesn't have a lot of trust in someone who can't understand what she wants. I'm not really concerned about the cost, but under 100k would be nice.
So the criteria are...
Good hairdresser.
Open on Sunday.
Speaks English.
Open on Sunday is negotiable to Saturday if need be.
Thank you. |

Hola. You should go to Zen Hair next to Ewha women's university, and get Johnny to do it. Some people have complained about it on here, but far more have been very happy. I've been going for over a year and he cuts great (trained in London, so bi lingual), just call his cellphone and your appointment will be with him and none of his minions... the number is 010 5586 0243. I'm pretty sure he's open on Sunday, but know for certain he's open on Saturday, and pretty late too. He also has a liscense to serve alcohol, so your wife can partake in a sneeky glass of red whilst she gets her hair done. He'll give you directions from the subway, but it's really close and takes about 2 minutes. |

Sorry to hijack but I'm thinking of changing hairdressers and wondered what Zen is like for colouring? I have blonde/light brown highlights at Toni & Guy which are great (open Sundays, speak English by the way!) - but the price is just too much at the moment (200k last time). So can Zen do good colour? |

Hey,
I've never had colour done at Zen, but if I was going to get it done he is where I would go. You might try a google search (the dave's one sucks) and you'll find the old thread from here about Zen. Whatever you decide to do, if you go to Zen, make sure the appointment is with Johhny himself. |

I'm one of the people who has complained about Zen, but I'm thinking I might have to give it another go. After coming out with brownish-purple, lopsided hair, though, I've been kind of scared off from any hairdresser here. 6 months later, I'm desperate for a cut. Is Johnny really that much better than the other people there (Lucy in particular)? |

Can't speak from colouring experience but I have my hair cut by Lucy and she's really good. I travel 150 kms up to Seoul to get it done. Very happy with it. It's always going to be trial and error with some. Having read many topics here about hairdressers. Some excellent, some good and some bad. They are very good and friendly and I've generally heard more positive things than negative about them |

Jonny at Zen. Got it. Any idea what a trim, and maybe a hot oil pack run? Someone mentioned they paid 200K at Toni and Guy. That's out of our budget range I think. And besides, my wife would stab me with something dirty if I spent that much money on her hair. |

The problem I had while there is that I part my hair on the side, yet she cut it as if I wore a center part. I pointed this out to her as she was cutting, and she told me she was aware of it, so I felt like it was going to be okay. When all was said and done I was so disappointed with the color that I didn't even notice that the right side was four inches shorter than the left until I got home.
Ah well. Like I said, I'm ready to give it another go. I'd asked on this board earlier about someone I heard of named Michael at the Green Turtle in Itaewon, but no one seemed to know whether he was around or not. Maybe I'll just take sineface's suggestion and call Johnny's cell directly. |

[quote="maeil"] I'd asked on this board earlier about someone I heard of named Michael at the Green Turtle in Itaewon, but no one seemed to know whether he was around or not. quote]
if you're talking about michel (a flamboyantly gay korean man who prefers the french pronunciation), then no, he doesn't work there anymore. he was the best stylist/colorist i've found in seoul. he quit because he opened the asian-fusion restaurant near B1. there have been a few replacements, most of which do a pretty good job. cut is around 20,000 won, style 15,000, and color for blonde highlights (not sure if your wife is looking for color) was about 45-60,000 for a whole head. haven't been in a while, but they're worth checking out. [in reference to the green turtle, itaewon] |

Oh dear...200k at T&G for a really good colour and cut is back on I think! While we're talking hair, anyone seen GHD straighteners in Korea? Mine died on me last week - bought some Philips ones but they're useless. I know GHD is a Korean company so surely you can buy them somewhere here?? |

My wife is Filipina. Beautiful long, black straight hair. We're off to Canada next Monday, so she wants to look nice for my Mum and sisters. |

A standard trim is 30,000, so with hot oil I can't imagine it's much more.
As far as this Lucy character is concerned, I'd stay away. Like I said I've been going for over a year, and have never had a bad haircut from Johnny. I've actually moved an hour and a half north of Seoul, but I still make the trip down because he's entirely worth it. I go less often now, and he still remembers who I am and how I like my hair cut. He's a great guy, I'd give him a shot for your colour / magic perm etc, but him and him only! |

i don't recommend the magic straight perm if your hair is damaged. i did it a few months ago. i'm happy with the overall results, my hair is manageable, but it's soooo damaged now because of the perm. i'd never do it again. |
