... Nowadays, only half of the causes of premature births are known. There are many possibilities for trouble: problems with the womb or placenta, antenatal complications or high blood pressure.
"Premature birth has more than a single cause," said Park Won-sun, a professor at Samsung Medical Center. "But the biggest is older mothers giving birth."
The average age of first-time mothers in Korea climbed to 29.2 in 2006 from 26.7 in 1996. |

The country's birth rate has inched up, but at the same time, the number of premature newborns is increasing. According to the National Statistical Office, the percentage of newborns lighter than 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) rose to 4.4 percent in 2006 from 4 percent in 2002.
The medical community estimates that, including newborns who die of complications from an untimely birth, one out of 10 newborns are born prematurely. With people marrying later and the age of first-time mothers on the rise, there are growing worries over premature deliveries. |

Yeah no matter how much feminism succeeds all it's adherents still get screwed by mother nature. 30's is a bad time to be having the first kid. |
