|
|
I haven't seen any posts on this in awhile, but it looks like that internship programme will go ahead, beginning soon.
I spoke with my Korean recruiter friend who got the information directly from GEPIK, and he told me that the starting salaries will be 1.6-1.8 per month, the contracts will be for an entire year (not summer contracts: hardly an internship) with the option to renew, and they will get the same deal as us in terms of housing.
It's the same job with less pay, basically. Thus far, the only requirement seems to be two years of university, which is a large percent of the Canuck population
I could not confirm whether or not these people will get severence and/or airfare. I also heard nothing about a TESOL or CELTA requirment. Can anyone else confirm these details?
The government did the exactly right thing it seems. They're going to get flooded... majorly flooded. Just like they wanted.
So,
Does anyone think this is a good idea?
What will the consequences be?
and how will it affect us?
If anyone has additional or different info, please reply. |

Rural (farming areas) of Korea may be "flooded" with the new recruits (mainly Kyopos and Young Canadian-University-drop-outs)...
however - I doubt Seoul will be flooded... these places are designed to fill rural schools out in the bush... |

No TESOL or CELTA? Consequences??
A whole bunch of kids being taught jack by a person who just happens to be able to speak English.
Makes me angry
Lee Myong Park is an idiot.
For those who are qualified, i'd look forward to cashing in. |

The Korean government is well aware that Korea is currently flooded with Canadians teaching with fake or no diplomas. This is their way of cashing in on the available flesh they can use for less pay. |

I do know of some Filipino teachers teaching part time in rural based schools and who make 1.5 million a month. They are married to Korean farmers (sometimes) and are considered an asset to their husbands as they bring in extra income. A Korean man might even want to choose a Filipino over others because of the English speaking ability and their earning potential. Anyways, it is a program to reach out to Filipino wives but housing is not provided. So, these young westerners might get the same deal but have free housing included. For now we are safe, but a few years down the road, who knows? We better do what we can while we can.... |
