I brought my Macbook with me from the U.S. and just didn't think to bring a power converter. Last time when I came with a PC I could just use a cord that the computer came with with the right prongs for the outlet, but this time I have no cord with the right prongs. So I just tried plugging in my cord to a 50 watt voltage converter that fits in Korean plugs, and it seemed to be charging my computer for a while, but the converter got hot and started smelling funny, so I took it out.

Where can a buy the correct Apple plug or converter in Seoul (or better yet, Bundang)? Or just the right converter to plug my American cord into? I only have about 4 hours of juice left on this computer....

If you go to Emart then you can find a converter. It will be about the size of a tissue box, and weigh about 5kg. It'll cost about 30,000 won

Don't use those 50 cent converter plugs for charging computers or any other expensive electronics.

Hi there-

I didn't say I was using a 50 cent power converter, it's a legitimate 50 WATT power converter to be used with 110/120 volt electronics. But is that not the right one? This one cost about as much as the price you mentioned for the one at E-mart, but it is not as big as a tissue box.

Darn, I should have thought of this, and bought a Mac universal adapter set. But since I probably can't find that here, some other set-up will have to do...

Those plugs work just fine if your machine is made to handle it. My HP computer has a power brick that handles 110 to 220v. I've used it for 2 years with no problems. Check the ratings on your power brick.

I think maybe Apple's brick just doesn't do it.

Be careful with those plugs...I have seen quite a few pieces of electronic equipment get melted down because they didn't use the right converter box. In particular XBoxes and PS2s. Make sure you get the right converter.

I have a Mac laptop and have never used a power converter for it as the AC adapter/plug is made to handle higher outputs like in Korea.

I have a Mac laptop and never needed a power converter because macbook already has one built in. Just needed a prong converter which I bought at Links at Coex. It is a whole set that converts prongs no matter where I travel, cost like 25,000. I wouldn't use those 50 cent ones, they are cheap and burn out fast.
