a bit off the thread, but I'm wodering why people don't want to study English. Hence the need for the intrinsic motivation.
Maybe the parents of the child or his or her middle school, and highschool teachers didn't like the culture of the target language. Student picked up bad vibes and forever associated negative feelings with the language, thus becoming a problem student at every Foreign hogwon he or she attends.
Some students make a conscious decision not to learn English. I was teaching a private class to a Doctor and his wife. He wasn't fluent or any where near the proficiency he needed to work in the U.S which was why I was teaching him. His wife was almost fluent, but he just had so many problems. When I asked him why he hadn't picked up the language sooner, he said he and his friends deliberately decided in college never to learn or speak English. Boy that's gotta be one stupid individual. A medical graduate with the common sense of a moron. |
