Most mothers send their children to hakwons Austin. It is not our teaching which attracts students, it is how much the hakwon owner will bend over backwards to please the parents. Do you honestly believe that given a choice between going to a hakwon or playing video games that a child would choose a hakwon? The parents choose the hakwon...and the price is a major consideration especially with the ecomony the way it is now. |
can't dissagree more man. I must say Student have been "sent" specifically because of my teaching. I think that a good effort goes a long way.
good on ya Austin. |
Well Austin and you must teach at some very strange schools then. Yes anybody can come onto this forum and boast about how they are such great teachers. Those tend to be the people who aren't. Really good teachers don't need to claim that. |

There was no "boasting."

Just one comment. Yes, sometimes it is the teacher's fault, but sometimes it has nothing to do with the teacher or their ability in the classroom.
Sometimes the boss is just an idiot who sees foreign teachers as expendable slave labour.
It's very easy to blame the teacher and say, well the classes aren't lively and fun.
But perhaps if the directors of some of these places were making sure that the teacher had adequate resources and support, the problem would have solved itself.
If parents are complaining, why don't the directors try and help the teacher to make things more acceptable. Instead, they just hurl threats and accusations and naively expect that somehow this will make you a better teacher.
If the school isn't doing it's part, as in making sure ALL the necessary supplies and resources are available to the teacher, then they have no grounds to complain about "boring classes" or ineffective teaching methods.
If the school is doing things like moving students from level 2 to level 5, just because a parent says so, and then blaming the teacher when the class turns out to be a "problem", then the school is to blame.
There are a whole host of other things that schools could do to help support their teachers. If they don't, they are going to have problems and usually they will lay the blame on the teacher's shoulders.
That's just how it is here.
Austin makes some good points, but I don't think he takes into consideration that some "schools" are just plain bad for all concerned.
Merry Christmas |
