I can't teach summer camp because my school will be renovated. So instead of 3 weeks of teaching, the school wants me to plan for the whole 2008-2009 school year and also for the camps.
I said I don' t know if that's a good plan since I won't even be here and the new teacher is supposed to do that. Even if I do plan for it, I think the new teacher will change it to their liking anyway.
So I have to think of how I should work for those 3 weeks (from 8:40-12:20 m-f) and I don' t know how. I think finding material for special class is good, but for the whole year and camps is a bit too much.
I am just frustrated since I'm the only one going through this. I've already made the lesson plans for summer camp and I'd rather just teach it instead of planning for the whole darn year. I said I'll ask Wenise what I should do, and they said no don't drag her into this. They also asked me what I thought about about not working and not getting paid for the last month? Heck no! Then I will lose my flight home and severance.
I'd much rather just teach. I've also already asked if I can teach at a school nearby, by just borrowing their classroom and the school said no. Someone please help me with ideas. I really can't wait to get the hell out of this school.

in most cases, making lesson plans is much better than teaching a boatload of kids. my first school had me do it because i was under hours. my reaction: sure (smile). then, i took my sweet time writing out the plans. they never questioned me why those of us making the lessons were working so slow. they just needed confirmation that we were working for the hours we were being paid for. if i were you, i'd agree to it, and tell them that you'll make out the plans "to the best of your ability." i'm sure they won't bother you too much as long as you get a decent portion finished before the three weeks is over. |

Time to load up MSWord, log onto a TESOL site, and do lots of cut-and-paste jobs. Hope your printer works well. Hope it's noisy as well. This will help your cause, as it will at least sound like you're busy. Make sure the a/c is cranking as well. You don't want to sweat over this.
No way would I actually wax cerebral on this task. |

Weird.
I have the exact same situation as you! I was supposed to do summer camp at my school, but it got cancelled. The bathrooms are getting rennovated so there's nowhere for the kids to piss.
My co-teacher follows the books, so she said she had to talk to the principal about my 2 weeks of time that I have nothing to do. Apparently, he said to her "find some work for him" or "make him work" even though there is really nothing to do. All lesson plans for the whole year are finished... I wrote them up over the last 2 years I worked here.
I told my co-teacher it seems rather silly for me to come to work 8:40-4:40 with nothing to do. I did that last year for 2 days: those two days, the teachers looked at me with sorrow, and kept saying "Weigh" in Korean and not understanding why I was here: "Brento1138, why are you here?" they would say. I would simply shrug and say "I dunno!"
So, my co-teacher is currently re-asking my principal as I type this, if I must come in for those two weeks! Will let you know what happens.

My money's on your being required to come in and do some task they assign you. I know people who have to be at their schools a minimum of 9 hours a day for three hours of teaching. Sometimes they have to do night classes that run until 9, meaning 12-hour bright, sunny days for 5 hours of teaching |

So what happened? I have to show up to work from 9 a.m. to noon for 3 weeks. I have one week down, and 2 to go. So far, I've been here just surfing the net. I think it's dumb that I have to plan for next year, when I'm leaving anyway. I decided to just download lesson plans from esnips and give it to them. They said to find teaching materials. I don't know what else to do here.
All my gepik friends think it's a waste of time too, because I'm leaving and I'm sure the new teacher will plan their own materials. So, basically, I'm doing all the planning for the new teacher. I think that's bs. That's their job, not mine. |
