Are flight sales taxes really 21%? That seems awfully high.

9/11 would definitely be a factor there. i flew Kansas City to Tampa on Southwest using their website for like $60-80 ( i forget the exact) round trip in early October 2001. Though, even pre-9/11, i flew KC-London roundtrip in 2000 for $300.

of course, we all know Korea is horrible for protectionism in the skies. picking random dates (7/27-7/31), cheapest available RT flights (tax included) on Asiana (according to their website) from Seoul (Gimpo or ICN) to Jeju are 224,000 won, and cheapest available flights from Seoul (ICN) to Fukuoka are 454,000. Fukuoka is almost the exact same distance as Jeju is, thus the plane would use almost the exact same amount of fuel, yet the Fukuoka flight is more than twice the price.

And yet only 3 months after 9/11. Maybe that factored into it just a bit.

exemplary reading skills! i'm well aware of the correlation. refreshing to see how on top of things you are though. way to step up!

Yes, Korea still considers this an affluent experience like we would had 40 years ago rather than transportation. !

In Korea, but not in Seoul. None of my current elementary and middle school students have ever traveled.
