So after entertaining decent offers from several Seoul area private schools and direct-hire BOEs, I finally select one and negotiate terms that satisfy both parties. I am quickly faxed a copy, asked to sign it, and return it via express courier with all my visa documents in order to be in Seoul for a September 1st start date.

July 7: I send ALL my documents, the resume, the transcripts, the apostiled CBC, the notarized diploma, the photos, yadda yadda, via expensive FedEx to demonstrate a good faith effort to my new employer.

July 10: I receive a message that the package has arrived. I am reassured that the documents will be expedited to immigration to procure the visa issuance number.

July 23: Nearly 2 weeks later, no correspondence from employer. No email, no phone call. So I email the employer to diplomatically ask for an update on the visa status.

"Oh," she says, "we are still waiting for the principal to sign the contract so we can send the documents to immigration. By the way, can you send us your flight information. We need it immediately."

I laugh. After disclosing the fact that they've been negligent for 2 BLOODY WEEKS and haven't done a thing to help me make it to Seoul in time, they expect me to pay for a plane ticket without a guarantee of work?

July 1: Likelihood of actually returning to Korea: 50/50
July 10: Likelihood of actually returning to Korea: 75/25
July 23: Likelihood of actually returning to Korea: 25/75

Sparkling: get off your duff and join the club that is the rest of the world. You need us more than we need you. And stop worrying about mad cow disease. You were mad waaaaay before cows ever made it onto the peninsula.

I'd say don't do it. Get your documents back and look for another place/country. They're basically trying to waste as much of your time as possible on PURPOSE.

You're joking, right? You sent your paperwork in 7 weeks before your arrival date and expected Koreans to process it EARLY???? Do I read correctly in your post that you are RETURNING to Korea? You should know everything in this country is last-minute. In their minds there is plenty of time to process everything.

Actually, from the tone of your post, it appears you need this job in Korea more than Korea needs you! Good luck!

In my experience, at times, once you sign the contract, things move at a snail's pace unless you get them into gear. A lot of employers now are unsure of what to do during the visa process or they're waiting for YOU to pay for your flight and things, etc.
