Thanks for all the tips.
We ended up booking at Kata Beach Resort, which seems to have everything we want.
Once we get to Phuket, we'll decide between spending a couple nights on Phi Phi as well or just doing the day-trip thing there. |
You also have the option of taking a day tour. You get on a speed boat that takes you to Phi Phi. the snorkel hang out on the beach. They give you a nice buffet lunch and all the fruit you can eat. Then they take you back to your hotel.Given the price of accomidation on Phi Phi that might be your best bet.
There's nothing left of the overpriced bungallo I stayed in. Completely washed away. |

| Speaking of overpriced, watch your expenses. You can easily drop 3 grand or more on a week-long trip like this for two. If you don't care about what you spend, then, of course, the point is moot. |

3 grand/90,000baht in a week??? You would either have to be completely stupid or bar fining the whole bar each night... My girlfriend and I spent three months traveling all over (bkk, islands to n.thailand, burma, laos & cambodia). I don't think we spent over 7k and ate like kings, drank every night like fish, saw and did anything we wanted, shipped presents home to the folks, rooms always with aircon/cable/fridge.
</2cents>
edit: but after looking at 5-10k baht a night at the resort i can see how it would add up - just not my style |

I went there via jet. That tends to make a difference. Others may try alternate modes, such as hoofing it to Thailand, floating there in an inner tube, floating there in a raft, et. al. These modes would make the trip cheaper, sure.
