Jeju to Have 15 English-Only Schools by 2015

The Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC) announced Thursday that 15 English-only primary and secondary schools will be built on the scenic island by 2015.

Unlike other international schools in the nation, these schools will be allowed to accommodate Korean students up to 100 percent, the first of its kind, the JDC said in a press release.

Besides Korean nationals, it said the English programs are aimed at targeting other Asian students looking for cheaper but similar English education services as in North America.

In the first phase, two private and one public school are scheduled to open by March 2011, it said.

Nice to see some alternatives for English education for poor students unable to go to Europe or North America. Would be interesting to see if it would really work, I doubt it though. It's just a pipe dream. They need to try to get teachers who speak natural English willing to move to Jeju. Opinions?

Why not have them in Seoul, where the bulk of kids wanting this service would be from?
