I'm sorry I've already asked this question but my computer won't let me search the forums. Anyway, I'd like to bring up the topic again to see if anyone else has some further input.
I want to buy an around the world ticket. I'm currently consulting airtreks. www.airtreks.com. My itinerary looks like it's going to cost about 5000$ Tax in.
Questions #1 Has anyone ever used airtreks? Did you get a good deal?
Questions #2 Would it be cheaper to go through a Korean travel agency? If so, does anyone know an agency that does around the worlds?
My tentative Itinerary
Seoul-Cebu(Philippines) Cebu-London London-Ottawa (Canada)
Ottawa-Chiang Mai(Thailand) Bangkok-Ottawa |

Your itinery is confusing.
Why not just go to Bangok after Cebu? |

I'm going to Cebu to see a friend. Going to Europe (hopefully to work) for a few months; going home (Ottawa) for Christmas; going to Thailand to rock climb and maybe do the CELTA course in Chiang Mai (offered in January), have to be back in Ottawa by July 2009 for a wedding.
That's the reason my itinerary is confusing.
But my whole life is confusing. |

It just seems like an unessessary expense if you planned your route a little differently. |

Yeah, I think back tracking will up your cost a bit.
Personally, I've used airtreks once, although it wasn't around-the-world. They have a good reputation.

Mine was around US $ 2,600 - but that was about 5 years ago.

I didn't use airtreks (this is the 1st I'm hearing of them).
I used "Ms Park - USO Travel/Tours" <[email protected]>; the USO is a 10 min. walk from Seoul`s Samgakji subway station (#s 628 and 428). I was happy enough with their service, and they answer emails promptly and in English.

My tentative Itinerary
Seoul-Cebu(Philippines)-London-Ottawa (Canada)-Chiang Mai(Thailand)/Bangkok-Ottawa |
I believe that your RTW (Round The World ticket) must end where you start (your itinerary`s Incheon); I doubt that you'd be able to twice fly in to Ottawa. NB: you could fly 1-way to Ottawa and then get a RTW ticket originating & ending in that city, tho' you'd then be looking at the expense of those two tickets.
I really enjoyed my RTW, and also paid extra (arranged & paid for in London), for a seperate London-Malaga return ticket. In fact, so much did I enjoy my time in Espana that I extended my 1-week stay there to 2 weeks...and that meant having to buy yet another ticket (a 1-way Malaga-London)!
Oh, anecdotal, but I believe true:
i) you usually have up to a year to complete a RTW; and,
ii) Bangkok is supposedly an inexpensive place to originate flights; you might consider re-arranging your itinerary to start there. I once taught alongside a fellow ESL teacher in Vancouver and she would tell tales of annually flying from a previous job in Buenos Aires (Argentina) to Bangkok to vacation there, but primarily to get another inexpensive RTW.
Bon voyage...and please let us know how it turns out! |

I've done some research on rtw tickets and if you just do a general search even in travel wiki it gives you some seriously good advice. For an around the world ticket with as few stops as you have you could probably get it for about 2000 but a true rtw ticket goes in only one direction. That is why yours is costing you so much. For 5000 you could seriously go around the world not just the few locations your planning on doing.
Unless your rich I suggested redoing your itinerary.
There are mileage calculators on the Internet that will help you to calculate your trip. RTW tickets are usually calculated by mileage. Most companies have 3 groupings. Kinda like a small, medium and large package. If your mileage is even over by just a little it will bump you up to the much more expensive package.
Also check to see their policy on travel dates. For example if you want to change flight times or days some companies won't let you and you may be left with no flight or you may have to pay a hefty fee.
Good luck
Happy planning |
