I'm winging this a little, but....
I plan to fly into Korea with degree, transcripts and police check. Then proceed to get my degree verified by the Korean Council of University Education through my future employer (should take two weeks), then make a visa run to Japan (maybe all in less than 4/5 weeks).
Firstly, what type of employer would it be best to get the verification done by? I know Hagwons will want me so it should be easy to get a job, but can they send the degree off to be verified?
Do you guys have any tips for searching for a job in country?
Would it just be a lot better to stay in India and organise a job before coming over (maybe getting flight paid)?
Any advice would be appreciated

I don't know about anyone else but you lost me on that degree verification item - what the F is that about?
also if you are new E2 you'll have to have an interview in your home country at the K embassy -
maybe you want to teach somewhere else closer? Japan? |

Trying to "wing it" as things stand in Korea right now could get expensive. There are so many jobs available now that coming here really isn't going to improve your odds of finding one...don't worry...schools will be begging you to work for them. I would suggest staying where you are and doing your research and job search from there. Most employers here really don't know what the hell is going on now so you could very easily be told something wrong. Coming here and having to leave on your own dime for someone else's mistake would not be fun. Take your time and do it right the first time. Working with a few recruiters wouldn't be the worst idea either so you can compare what each tells you. They are not the most reliable, but they are probably more up to date on the current requirements than most employers are now.

Western style job hunting tactics are about as useful as mens' nipples here. Go through a recruiter or deal directly with a school and then make them pay for your flight in advance. |

...and make sure it's a roundtrip ticket so that if you have any problems, you can go back home on their expense. |

| I am currently going through the process of the degree verification (as seen in the other thread). I will be working for a Hagwon, so they can do it. My other documents are all en route to Korea at the moment. I will update the other thread when the verification process is complete. |

No one verified my degree. Say wasn't that something they were doing to Canadians because of the rampant diploma mill industry there? |

Well, the degree verification has to do with obtaining your first E-2 visa in a country other than your home country. The regulations require that you must do an interview in your home country. The loophole is that you can do it from a 3rd country if your degree has been verified. This nullifies the need for the interview. |

| The in Korea degree verification process was part of the new procedures ... It gave another option for the diploma part of the process ... It is on the Korean Immigration website ... And apparently once it is done once it does not need to be repeated ... so no need for duplicate diplomas etc (But it cannot be requested by an individual it has to be requested by an employer) |

My unigwon has sent at least 6 teachers (myself included) off to Fukuoka for visa runs last semester, and the majority were 1st time E visa holders. I asked the Korean manager at my unigwon, and he said it was a simple process to get your academic work verified. It does take time however, (1-1/2 weeks in my case).
