Ledger's Joker DESTROYS Jack's Joker. I was skeptical myself before actually seeing the movie. He plays the role of the Joker the way it was meant to be played. Darker, more complex, and more psychotic than Jack's version. |
While I agree that the psychotic Ledger Joker is infinitely more interesting than the Nicholson one, I'd disagree that it was "meant" to be played that way. The Joker was pretty tame originally. Only after Miller and Moore got a hold of him did he get as dark and insane as what people think of as the "real" Joker nowadays. |
According to wikipedia, the "fun" and "goofY" joker got his start after the comic industry decided to tone it down due to pressure from the public that comics were too violent/depraved.
This joker is much more fun....instead of being a total goof, he's more so twisted and sociopathic....but still funny....Ledger's joker is the best joker I've ever seen. |
I forgot that Batman/Christian Bale was even in the movie!!! Heath Ledger's Joker was that good |

Heath Ledger was fantastic - a brilliant performance.
Even better was Gary Oldman. The guy is the best actor of his generation. He is Commissioner Gordon.
Katie Holmes is stupid for not being in the film. |

Rotten tomatoes gives it 95% and that is pretty impressive.
The differences between the jokers can be debated all day but remember there is almost 20 years seperating the 2 films.
I honestly cannot remember being this excited over movie in a long time. |

I thought it was a good film, but I wouldn't exactly call it a masterpiece. I had the same problem with it that I had with Batman Begins-- the whole 'real world' take on it seems more like a shallow concept than an attempt to make a good film, or to do justice to the characters.
I came away from the whole thing with the impression that the director just wanted to prove to everyone that comic book characters can be realistic as opposed to taking the time to create genuinely interesting and sympathetic characters.
I never for a second really cared about anyone in Batman Begins, and really, Michael Keaton was a lot more interesting than Christian Bale. With Michael Keaton, he seemed weird enough and like he had enough going on in his head that I got the impression he was really Bruce Wayne, with Christian Bale all I think is 'it's Christian Bale, he's doing his American accent, and he's delivering his lines really well'.
This film has Nolan taking ideas from a lot of other films and putting them together, except now the lead characters are iconic comic book characters instead of new ones. It's not even that I think the whole 'real world' angle couldn't work, it's just that both of these films have felt really hollow... and for the most part, it seems that the general moviegoing public are so fascinated by the idea of a realistic take on Batman that they come away thinking they've just seen a great film even though there isn't a single character in the series that is actually compelling.
Really, the whole point here is to see 'how they did the Joker' or 'how they did Two-Face', and as long as they did it in a way that doesn't seem as condescending as the crap of recent years, people are satisfied. But nobody really goes in because the Batman from these films is a compelling character... they just want to see the ideas. |

will pass on this one - too bad too - Batman is my fave |
Are you kidding? He completely devastated Jack's joker. Ledger's performance was absolutely stellar and I'm not just saying that because he died.
Everyone go see it, it was amazing. |

in the recent batman movie? or in the batman series. After seeing this movie I don't see how you can say Ledger's joker isn't compelling. Also the Harvey dent character was well cast in this movie. |

I just got back from seeing Dark Knight and that is one of the things I'll agree with, Keith Ledger was the wrong pick for the Joker role in more then one way. I won't ruin it, but given that Ledger is dead they will have to pick someone to replace him. Hopefully they'll come up with a better replacement then Ledger.
Other then that, it wasn't too bad aside from the ungodly running time of well over 2 1/2 hours. At least it's going to have two things in common with Titanic (that is a long running time and being a box office blockbuster). |

I have to disagree. I think Ledger was great as the joker. He gave it a nice dark twist. I'm not sure if all the hype was deserved, but Ledger was pretty great as the joker...Jack's joker just can't compete. |

Well, to be fair, Ledger went in playing the Joker as a psychopath to be feared. Jack went in playing the Joker as buffoonish, a little less campy than Caesar Romero.
Saw it again yesterday. I guess the shine has worn off the Batman in Korea. Barely 20% of the theater was filled. When I got my ticket, I thought it would be a packed house (my seat was jammed in the middle way at the back). By the time the film started, the back 4-5 rows only were filled, everything else was empty.
I still find it interesting that everyone still reacts the same way at the same parts. Gasps of 오모! and 어떻게! when Gordon comes back from the dead, nervous laughter when Joker bombs the hospital, ...
I just wish Gyllenhaal was in the first movie instead of Holmes. She's way hotter and a way better actress. |

English-language movies are always in English with Korean subtitles. They do not dub the English-language movies with Korean but instead use Korean subtitles.
I think it is that way with all non-Korean movies when they are played in the theater.
To find out showtimes and locations of movies currently being played in Korea, as well as instructions on how to get there, just call up the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) hotline at 1330.
1330 provides information in English about living, visiting and traveling in Korea.
They are operated 24 hours a day.
If your calling from a cellphone you just add the area code before 1330.
If you don't know your area code go to this site to find it out:
http://www.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/GK/GK_EN_2_7_1.jsp
You can call them up and ask them what are the show times and showing locations of a movie your interested in. They will be happy to help you with that.
If it's a Korean movie your interested in, they can tell you if a showing has English subtitles or not. While generally Korean movies do not have English subtitles, I do know that the recently released Korean movies "Crossing" and "The Good, the Bad, and the Weird" did have some showings that had English subtitles. I do not know if that is the case now. Just call 1330 to find out.
Pass the info about 1330 to other foreigners. It's good to know. 1330 is very helpful.
Here's the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) website about 1330:

Not always. Kids movies and animation flicks come in both subtitled and dubbed flavours. You have to be sure which one you're buying tickets for, or you won't understand a thing. The dubbed movies are because kids won't sit through a movie they have to read subtitles for. |

It's playing in IMAX at CGV Yongsan, Incheon and Ilsan. The chain has an exclusive contract with IMAX in Korea, I believe.
It's not easy getting a ticket for the IMAX screenings. |
