The electric bill came today. I was a little concerned that it might break the bank. For 2 1/2 weeks of air con use, I only have to pay W13,000. Very Happy I was so worried that I kept the temp at 26.

I think next month, when it really is hot, I'll run the thing 24/7 at about 18 degrees and wear mittens.

There is something weird about the electic bill. Last summer when I had the air con installed the electric man came by to tell me I was over the limit and I'd have to pay the higher rate. That amounted to only like W8,000 or something. Screwy.

I'm lookin foward to my next elec bill. My last one was 11000 for about 8 days of heavy use. Didn't even change. In NZ we used to get $300 or more bills in winter when running the heat pump (reverse air con) in winter.

If it's going tpo cost 40000 to run the thing 12 hours a day so be it. I would happily pay double that.

My electricity and gas bills are so low I only pay them every 3 months, when they come visit and put a sticky note on my door. With late fees and penalties applied, my gas bill comes to about 5,000 won, and my electricity bill is maybe 40,000? Those late fees really add up I tell ya.

I had to stop my OP because the maid wanted to clean this room. Cool

The other half of my story is that the winter gas bill is a killer. I was paying around W400,000 while being careful to turn the boiler off while I was at work, but the woman upstairs ran hers cranked 5 degrees higher than mine and didn't turn it off, day or night, till spring. She said she never paid more than W200,000.

I swear the meters in this building are all cross-wired or something.

I also found I saved a lot of money this year by leaving the gas on all the time. I think it uses a lot to power up. Something to consider.

Also, electrticity gets more expensive the more you use. If you are only using the basic appliances it should be inexpensive, but start adding the extras and watch it jump. I'm quite the power guzzler myself Embarassed

Sorry to digress. I'm not sure about this heat pump reverse air con thingy. Can you explain?

Having been to NZ, I can say that in the winter they turn their air cons around, blow the cold air outside and the heat from the motor is pumped into the homes.

I'm washing a load of laundry at the moment. The washer is going, 'woo woo, gallunk gallunk, woo woo'. Then, at the spin dry (after the rinse), it goes, 'wuzz wuzz wuzz walla walla walla wooooooooooooooooooooooo'. The long 'woo' lasts five minutes and is the cool, 'spinning centrifuge' part. I hate unloading the farking thing and hanging stuff to dry, so tedius and clammy, but there's no maid.

I went through life doing the laundry, washing dishes, vacuuming...ironing, all the chores that eat up time. One day, matching socks, I figured out just how much of my life had been spent matching socks and had an epiphany. I would never get those minutes back. Mr. Death would not reward me with bonus time for the time I spent doing soul-deadening things.

I got a maid the next day. Maids are better than wives. You have to actually talk to a wife. Wives are highly over-rated.

(1) Yeah, but what about all the time you spend in the morning riffling through your sock drawer looking for the other dark blue sock? Half a dozen of one, six of the other, I say...

(2) Are you telling us you are poking your maid? If so, that's not what I'd call a maid... The only people that ever say that a wife is over-rated are single guys who spend too much time on the Internet. Razz
