The government plans to begin offering free medical check-ups to 6,000 international brides as early as next week, in an effort to protect them from possible health risks....
The medical examination, which normally costs over 500,000 won ($546), will be composed of 20 different procedures, including a test of liver function, hyperlipidemia, AIDS and heart function....
State health authorities have found that 23.5 percent of the international brides married to Korean men are excluded from taking advantage of the national health care system or medical care service....
"We expect to obtain a better understanding of the health problem and risks of the foreign brides and use it as a reference when developing policies and health promotion programs for them in the near future," they said.... |

They don't want to offer such checks to foreign males married to Korean women?
Do tell... I wonder why... |

What happens to the said foreigner if they are found to have contracted AIDS and other fatal illnesses? Probably gets chucked out of this country. |

Yah I got the letter in the mail. Personally I think it's a good thing. I didn't use it but I might in the future. Also it's good for wives that don't have much money - I know one Chinese girl married to a K guy - and she cannot get a job here. Rough. |
