My girlfriend and I are going to Europe on Friday night, but she just told me that her passport is expiring in 5.5 months. Do any of you know how strict the 6 month rule is enforced throughout Europe?

Once upon a time I had a girlfriend, geez how times change. Anyway, we were heading for the Dominican and the night before said flight she realized that her passport had less than 6 months to go. We shat a brick but suffice to say she and indeed we never had a problem. However, that was before 9/11 and mass terror!!!!!

Hopefully things will work out. Her friend works at the airport and someone from the airline will supposedly extend the passport for "business" purposes. She's thrilled, but I won't believe it until we're up in the air.

Sounds a bit irresponsible.Why didn't she check into the remaining validity of her passport well in advance of your trip?

Where I am in Europe,they check remaining passport validity right down to the day using a calendar.

Everywhere's different, I'm sure if this is still the case but you used to be able to travel to Majorca from within the UK on an expired passport!
