I've been on vacation back home for a bit and just popped onto Dave's to see if any crazy new regulation sprung into existence and sure enough... some new nonsense is afoot.
So, I have my local CBC in hand and notarized. I leave in 4 days and haven't had it apostilled yet. I can still go to the US embassy in Korea and sign an affidavit attesting to its authenticity instead, right?
I could still mail it in for the apostille here but doubt my family would get it back to me in a timely manner. |

I read on here that there were new changes afoot after July 16th(?). |

The changes only concern the use of online/e-mailed background checks: they're no longer accepted by Korean Immigration as of July 17th, even if issued by a state government, even if accompanied by an embassy-notarized affidavit.
If your background check was issued (in hard copy) by a government authorityfederal, state, provincial, or localyou can still follow the embassy-notarized affidavit procedure. Nothing has changed about that.
The ever-"helpful" U.S. embassy continues to trumpet that they cannot/will not "authenticate" background checks, without mentioning that they can and will notarize affidavits in regard to background checks. Such an affidavit is acceptable to KImmi in lieu of an apostille.
Once again: status quo ante in regard to everything but online checks.
Call Hale VanCoughnett at the embassy if you still have any questions. |
