I'm moving to Korea and working with EPIK and know I get "14 days of vacation" which could be 14 days or maybe 41... but I'm curious... how many trips do you travel lovers take a year?

My friend in Korea managed one 3 week trip. I'm American, and in the last year I went 7 places, 4 trips were more than 10 days and 4 were international... so you can see I travel more than average. I want to travel as much as possible in the next year, but can I only expect 1 trip or is my friend just travel-lazy?

14 days vacation.. Most likely it will be 7 days in Summer and 7 in Winter.
That's 2 International trips gaurenteed!

Local trips aren't too hard to organise, a weekend here, a weekend there, etc. Often your public school gives a few extra bonus days here and there, and coupled with a long weekend they can make for nice trips in country. I don't know where you'll be placed, but pretty much anywhere in Korea is no more than 5 hours (by bus) from anywhere else.

I'm with GEPIK, on the standard 14 days vacation. With creative use of weekends and holidays, in addition to your vacay time, you can go quite a few places. Here are the places that I have been, or have plans to go, during my year with GEPIK . . .

-Weekend trip to North Korea
-10 day summer trip to Beijing
-11 day Christmas trip to Turkey, Greece, Kurdistan and one day in Moscow
-10 day Lunar new year trip to Japan

-plus several shorter domestic trips to Busan, Jeju, etc.

Not bad for "14 days vacay" methinks . . .
feel free to PM me if you have any questions . ..

peace out,
politica

If in Gangwondo EPIK, then you're in the right place if you like taking vacations. You get 2 weeks in the Summer and 3 weeks in the Winter. SE Asia here I go again... There are also free days here and there as well as much appreciated unexpected 3 day weekends on occasion and some extra camp pay to top it off. It's a welcome relief as I taught in a hagwon for a year with only 1 single 3 day weekend during the whole year which was Lunar New Year. I'm quite happy with the job I have now.

And in the Winter, you can get any flight you want as they're all available at that time. Yes, I said any flight for about half the price of what they are right now during Summer.

Do you have an example of some round-trip flight prices that I can expect to see in the winter?

I have 3 weeks of vacation in December and then 4 weeks in February, and I might consider going somewhere if the flights are a good price.

Thanks

Yes, that's a great time to tour SE Asia, the banana pancake circuit. You can fly into Bangkok for around 400 to 500 dollars and then you can get around Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam on buses, trains, and affordable regional airlines such as Air Asia. Accomodation can be bungalow huts for 5 to 10 dollas a night with delicious Thai food made from all fresh ingredients for 1 to 3 dollars a meal. Great banana pancakes for 1 dollar are usually available. Have a great time.

In 2007 I flew to Amsterdam, Beijing, Shanghai, and Taipei.

So far in 2008 I've flew to Phuket, Winnipeg (Canada), and Tokyo.

It took me a couple of years to be able to get the kind of vacation time needed to travel like this. But now it's great.
