I'm pretty excited about it. Alan Moore will hate it though.

Except for Jackie Earl Haley (Rorshach), any other "names" in the flick?

EDIT: guess not.

Except for a brief flashback(?) at the beginning, he's all CGI in the flick. (Hmm... I looked at his IMDB profile... don't recognise him)

Yeah, he is a bit obscure I guess. He mostly does moody, depressing little dramas and tragedies and stuff. Especially good (if I remember correctly) was 'waking the dead,' with Jennifer Connolly, from some time in the mid-nineties. Also he played the rockstar guy in that Cameron Crowe movie 'almost famous.' Don't hold that against him though, he's actually quite good.

Upon giving it some more thought I'm worried about the movie. I've read the graphic novel three or four times and it's never failed to amaze me. the movie's going to have to be pretty damn special.

I guess I was right about Alan Moore hating it:

Yeah, but Alan Moore hates everything.
I think it'll be a good movie, like Lord of the Rings was a good movie...not the same as the book, not as good as the book, but pretty cool.
I wonder how long the movie will be? Long, I hope.

Hey, any of you moore fans read 'from hell?' It rules...many people don't like Eddie Campbell's illustrations, but it's as good in its way as the Watchmen. Definitely worth a download.

But considering what they did to it when they made it into a movie...that one, and the 'league of extraordinary gentlemen,' too...it's easy to understand why moore is so dead set on removing his name from any and all future adaptations of his work.

If I remember the interview I read correctly, he basically doesn't believe that his comics can be made into good movies, though, because of the very nature of comics: they are something that should be held in your hand, something you can read over a period of days or weeks, and a medium where you can look back at the first couple of pages and pick stuff out that you didn't understand at first, before you've actually finished the story, and have that enrich your appreciation of it. Movies on the other hand are to be watched in one sitting and cannot give as much depth of information and retain their watchability.

I disagree, but I think he does have something of a point. Comics are like storyboards and all, and therefore 'cinematic' in a sense, but the very way they are taken in is fundamentally different from movies. There must be some sacrifices made in translating them to a movie format. Unless they're simple, or childish; the Batman and Spiderman type of flick, or 'sin city' or '300,' translates just fine, because they're not particularly complex.

He should write movies and then make comics adapted from them, I think.

True that.

I thought V for Vendetta was done very well considering the volume of material they had to condense into a movie. Hopefully we'll see as competent a job done with Watchmen.

The cast has me hopeful. A bunch of big names would definitely wreck the grit.
