Not cool. Yet another reason why America needs to do something to change the gun culture and the right to bear arms.

You would never get all the guns off the streets or out of the homes. Let law abiding citizens keep the guns. Criminals who already aren't supposed to have guns still have guns. More regulations won't help.

Let the flame war begin....

I agree more regulations won't change a thing. A large portion of the US needs to change its mentality towards guns. They're practically a fashion statement in some places. If these people would lose their fascination with weapons then maybe some real change could take place.

If The Jesus had been on hand, there would have been knocking off of blocks and gnashing of ears. He was a bit handy when the Holy Spirit took him, or so I hear.

It was a Universalist church. They're godless heathens. This was God's way of saying "I told you so."

Yes, it was a very tragic event. However, it is a disturbed individual and not the weapon who is to blame. I own firearms in the States and I can assure you I have never used them on anyone. I have numerous friends who are also gun owners and, to the best of my knowledge, not one of them ever used their personal firearms against a person (game animals are another matter).

But in every society there is a % of disturbed individuals. Surely removing guns from the entire populace would go some way to cutting the huge number of mass killings in the US? Its almost every week some loon runs amok.

If someone wants to do harm to others, they will always find a way.

Sure, but if said loon has only a hammer, nails, and bottle handy and is of nervous disposition, he will only injure one or two people.

If he has access to a semi-automatic machine gun of the type used in operation desert storm, then he can kill dozens before he snaps out of his moment of madness.

Depending upon how much damage he wished to do, he could find a method to do the maximum. It has happened time and time again in countries that were, supposedly, "gun restricted". Conversely, in places in the US where carrying is common (such as many places in Texas), crime tends to be very low.

It is folly to think that making new laws and restrictions on legal firearms owners will somehow decrease crime. To begin with, gun ownership in the US is historic and deeply entrenched. By definition, with such a ban, only criminals would own guns. There are, already, something like 20,000 gun laws on the books that are relatively unenforced; before trying to make new unenforced laws, the old ones should be paid attention to first.

That's actually an excellent idea.
