| The best place in Dong-gyo/Yeon-hee dong is a small place around the corner from Sareoga Shopping Center, the large one-story shopping market in the middle of the neighbourhood. Don't remember the name, but it's the best I've had. |

Best Chinese I've had here in Seoul is at a restaurant called 78...in Samsung-dong. Come out of Cheongdam station, exit 1, head in the opposite direction and it's on the right side on the corner of the intersection.
Pricey, but the place is damn clean, nice modern interior and the food is excellent. I'd recommend the orange beef, noodles in black bean sauce and pork fried rice. Dim sum options are pretty good, too.

| There is a nice Chinese place in Songtan; it's among a bunch of buildings by the main gate to the army base -- I believe that it's not far from the Nonghyup bank. |

There is a nice Indian restaurant in Itaewon.
Ashley's is a nice chain all over Korea and a Western-ish buffet. The menu is too expensive.
Paran is a Shabu Shabu style Korean restaurant.
CostCo has a nice food court with some western style things. |

You need to be a bit more specific. Your use of the buffet thing lends me to believe you're thinking of Western-style Chinese food, which isn't done here much (or at all). Seoul has TONS of Chinese restaurants, but it's more... real... Chinese food, not the stuff that was developed by immigrants after they left China. Ive been to at least a dozen Chinese restaurants in Seoul and have yet to see a buffet. |

You can get Peking Duck at a place across from a Dunkin Donuts at Apgujeong station. Haven't been there myself, but I heard it's not bad. And it's called "Beijing Duck". |

It should be pointed out that "western-style chinese food" is basically derived from Hong Kong or Guangdong (Cantonese) cuisine, since this is the area where the first Chinese immigrants came from. Chinese restaurants around the world hence reflect this influence. Many, including the Chinese, regard this area as having the best food in China.
Of course in Korea, there are few traces of Cantonese people settling, so you have no "western-style" chinese food. The Chinese food in Korea reflects the areas geographically closest to Korea - Shandong peninsula and the northeast. Therefore, you get more wheat-based dishes like heavy noodles in thick sauces and dumplings.
As an example, dim sum comes from Hong Kong, that's why you can find it in North America, but rarely in Korea.
I wouldn't necessarily call one "real" and the other not, IMHO. |
