Did this really happen? I didn't see it in the news.

http://www.footprintsrecruiting.com/contentdetails_307_375.php

One of our teachers in Korea has informed us that someone that his fellow teachers know was busted by the Korean police for marijuana. He has been teaching here in Korea six years and had a job at a university which is the most coveted type of position. That gravy train has come to an end for him. No more 8 month working year for good pay. No more cheap Asian travel. No more good, cheap Korean food.

He got sentenced...to twenty years. He doesn't get to go home to Canada! Ouch! I hate it when that happens! There is a lesson in all of this. When you are living abroad, don't screw around. You don't know the rules here. You aren't half as cool as you think you are. You aren't half as smart. You aren't half as savvy as you think. You know nothing. Remember that.

The Korean DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) have been known to enter clubs and do hair follicle tests on the spot to determine if you have any drugs in your system. If you do, no questions, no time, youre done.

The same can be said about many countries in Asia and South America. The rules are different, and whether you understand them or not doesnt matter.

Remember when Ross Rebagliati, the Canadian snowboarder that won the gold medal in mens snowboarding giant slalom test positive for marijuana. He claimed he was at a party where others were smoking it so it must have entered his blood stream that way You wont be so lucky.

Dont waste the best years of your life on something as simple or stupid as smoking pot in another country. The rules and levels of acceptance or different in the West but youre there, not here.

If it's true, ouch!

I'm going to do a few searches and see if I can find anything, these sort of things usually end up all over the news.

Ok, I couldn't find anything on that (not a think at all other than that article).
And I found some other articles from about other foreigners being jailed for a matter of months, being fined, deported and banned from Korea.

Here's a couple of links:
http://www.mapinc.org/safe/v08/n049/a07.html
http://www.altweeklies.com/alternative/AltWeeklies/Story?oid=oid%3A143682

So I have a feeling that linked article isn't true, or at least has some very big mistakes, but you never know...

20 years? Even the guy in "Brother One Cell" only got a few years, and he was importing loads of hash. Not saying it isn't true, but without a link I am sceptical.

The old adage applies: if it sounds too ________ to be true, it probably is.

Or, in this case, it if sounds completely f!@#ed, it's not true.

And smoking weed will cause you to become a stark raving lunatic just like in "Reefer Madness"! It will screw up your genetics and you will have babies with 9 heads!

PURE F***ING B.S.!

The OP is full of s***!

-No link to any real news story!
-No real, confirmable information!
-NO, the police are not doing random hair sampling in bars.
The hair sample test is very expensive and they only perform if they
have taken you into custody under strong suspicion- somebody ratted
you out-, but your urine sample is "inconclusive". This happened to
someone I know very well.

This story is fiction!
20 years for smoking weed? Yeah, right.

This post from the same guy who posted about some religious revival in Florida where a girl's broken arm was completely healed through prayer alone!

Don't believe anything he posts as "fact"!

Or we could calm down and read the OP's first sentence where he asks if this is true and then links to the "story."

The story may be bull but the OP's question is pretty simple and harmless.

I think this story might be referring to the "professor" that got caught with a fake PhD and a grow-op.

It was at the same time that English Spectrum had their "sexy party" and posted the party photos of sexy Korean women and not-so sexy foreigners all wet and drunk.

Then there was the ensuing antiEnglishSpectrum backlash of the frothing and sexually frustrated netizens who couldn't, and cannot, get laid.

Koreanesl had their "how to be a pedophile" spoof then too.

KBS had a field day with pedophile fear-mongering. (damn to hell all those whities who acted in those little KBS specials. You did more harm than you'll ever know)

Right there in the middle was a guy at a top university who was busted with a fake Harvard or Yale PhD. He had set up a webpage that made it look like he was publishing peer-reviewed articles, but it was all plagarised. He just changed the name to his own and put the university name in the webpage. When the cops went to get him, they found a grow-op in his place.

I don't remember how much time he got, but he started the ball rolling on all the E2 bullshit that we have to deal with now. Right when it all started to die down a bit (about two years after it started), famous interntional pedophile Christopher Neil hit the news, along with the fact that he was a teacher on an E2 visa.

I'm sure other instructors have been busted for having pot, but this is probably the guy mentioned on the condescendingly-written Footprints website.

I'd need more than second hand information to believe this.

Christopher Neil was not on an E-2 visa, which is one more thing that made the "we must fix the E-2 regulations right now" hysteria all the more nonsensical.
