I just got an email from my recruiter telling me to book with Korean Air, and that SMOE will pay for it. The problem is - I live in Prince Edward Island, Canada - definitely NOT a place where Korean Air flies out of. The closest city would be Toronto, and that's not exactly next door. I'm gonna call my recruiter tonight, but just wanted to get some clarification from others with experience with SMOE - were you allowed to book whichever airline you wanted, and have SMOE reimburse you? Thanks for your help.

Don't mess with the Korean Air website. Call them directly. One of their affiliates will service your flight from home to a bigger city, all under your "Korean Air" ticket.

Ah, the beauty of affiliates. Of course. Thanks - I'll call them tonight.

I thought that with how much Koreans love Anne of Green Gables, there would be a direct flight to PEI.

Sorry I am of no help.

The Canadian government caught them smuggling potatoes and banned flights to or from the province Razz

It's the Japanese who are obsessed with Anne of Green Gables. Wink

Why are they having us contact the airline? I thought you had to have a credit card to book a flight. Is this the latest requirement? When will they start doing credit checks on us and ask us for our social security numbers? I don't have a credit card so I guess I must pay cash in person.

Book the flight with Korean Air (ph# (02) 1588-2001, 2000)

English service, no problem doing this. If you want the forms and additional info. , please go to the SMOE group on EFL Classroom 2.0 where I've posted this. Also, other info... supervisor's emails etc....

I'm currently not in Korea, I'd rather not call long distance.

Korean Air has numbers in USA and Canada.

As far as I know, you only need to reserve your flight. SMOE pays for it. But check SMOE's correspondence with you to be sure.

And who doesn't have a credit card these days? Even a "Visa" debit card?? It doesn't cost you to have on hand for these types of purchases, online purchases and shady purchases (which you can dispute later if you have a problem).

I have taken "Korean Air" flights out of Charlotte, NC. They are cross-listed with Delta or someone. No problems except for explaining to TSA workers what airline my flight is on...

What's long distance these days?! I call anywhere, anytime for next to nothing.

But yeah, as BB said, you can book through Korea Air but I'd get your recruiter to arrange or provide exact details about all that. That "should be" part of the bargain they offer. If that fails, contact the supervisors directly at SMOE head office.

Good luck, bon voyage.

Ha, not paying for a business class seat if you read their instructions or contract.
