I remember teaching some elementary school children:

At the library, we read books.

At the grocery store, we buy food.

At the school, we study.

When we got to "barber shop," the kids wouldn't stop giggling. At the time, I didn't know why.

Which leads me to the question: Under which rock, in which cave, has this reporter been living?

Chosun Ilbo Shocked to Find Unpunished Prostitution in Busan

A reporter gathered these prostitution cards from the area around the famous Haeundae beach and took this photo with a caption noting that you may want to sit down for this the businesses have gone unpunished despite advertising themselves so openly.

I am familiar with the term "crocodile tears" for fake sorrow.

What is the term for fake surprise?

Am I missing something? I don't get it. Or maybe I'm just slow today. What happens at the barbershop? I know the room salon girls get their hair and makeup done at the beauty salons, but so does the rest of the country.

Republic Of Prostitution
Chosun Ilbo (February 7, 2003)
http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200302/200302060032.html
Quote:
The Korean Institute of Criminology released figures on Thursday stating that prostitution is a W24 trillion business in Korea, accounting for 4.1% of the country's GDP. The figures serve as a warning as to how prostitution is no longer something that can be seen as an individual's moral corruption. All the while it was discussed only in whispers and we pretended it was barely there, this monster of a business has grown larger than electricity, gas, and water (2.9%), and to be as big as agriculture, forestry, and fishery (4.4%)....

According to this recent study, prostitution is going on in sex quarters, drinking establishments such as "room salons," in so-called "ticket coffee houses" as well as in singing rooms located in residential neighborhoods. If we get called a "Republic of Prostitution," there won't be much for us to say in response.

These 'barber shops' also help some of the people here on this board, that way they can brag about the 'hot women' they've slept with leaving out the fine details of how they met the woman, as well as how much she cost.
