So, here's the story: A few weeks ago I bought myself a bright shiny new beginner guitar. I've always wanted to play and I thought that it would be a decent way to spend some down time in Korea. Now, I was once a music major in college, and I play the clarinet, oboe, English horn, alto and tenor sax, trumpet, french horn, and upright bass . . .

But I am seriously STRUGGLING with teaching myself guitar. So I thought I might see if there was a waygook out there that might be willing to teach me . . .

You don't need to be a pro, just a decent player. I would just like to learn tuning, fingering, basic chords, reading tabs, and maybe a few simple songs . . .

Here's the deal. I live in Suwon. Ideally, you would be able to come to me, but I could also travel to you (though not far outside of Suwon), or we could meet somewhere . . .

I'd like to meet for around 1-2 hours/week, preferably on a week night (I'm a little hit and miss at other times). I'll offer good money (or you can suggest a price), and will even offer you dinner, should we decide on meeting at my house (I'm a damn good cook too Razz). So basically, I think its a win-win situation.

Contact me if you're interested. I'd like to get this started soon!

Peace out,
politica

You should be a tiny bit more specific on what kind of teacher you want.
Age?
Male, Female?

It matters to some people, so just asking. Sometimes it just doesn't feel right learning from a 16 year old when you're 30+, for example.

I occasionally give lessons. I'm a little far, though, near Daejeon. I wonder if you can Skype a guitar lesson?

Also, check out peer to peer file networks. There are TONS of guitar instruction videos for all levels out there. There's nothing like a real teacher, but you can go pretty far with a good video.

What style do you want to learn?

Just reading this because I too want to learn the guitar. I gotta ask....what does 22/24 mean? You don't know your age? Laughing

Oh, haha . . . 22 by Western standards (born in '85), 24 in Korean age. I've gotten in the habit of telling people both . . .

Hah, I do the same thing.

Anyway, I'm always willing to help out learning guitarists, but I'm probably close to 2 hours away on the subway, so internet feeds would probably be the only convenient option.

Checking back to see if you found an instructor yet. I'm close to Suwon and available a couple of week nights per week. 38 years experience. Don't suck too much, I suppose. P.M. if needed. Mike Rodgers

How did this end up for you politica? I bought a guitar too & have ordered one of those book/cd/dvd 'learn the guitar' packages from what the book.

Just wondering whether you found a real live person to help you out?

Hey, if you're still looking, I live in Anyang, just up line 1 from Suwon. If you wanted to make the trip up, I could get you started. With prior music knowledge, it'll just take a few times to get you capable of learning yourself. What sort of music are you looking to play?
