Someone's not giving you the correct information bibbitybop...
I extended my visa to the date of my departure to do the visa run.
I had my letter of release confirming my employment had ended when I applied for my extension...granted, I do have special circumstances...same director...new school...new city...new school registration...new Immigration office...new everything.
But he still had to write the letter of release to Immigration...in essence, a letter of release to himself no less.
But...technically...it is a brand new school and a brand new visa in the "eyes" of Korean Immigration.
I had no problems having my documents accepted...visa issuance number processed...during my extension period. I released my ARC, it was my last day in country, so I had to....and I just came back from Fukuoka on Thursday with my new visa.
It sounds to me like something else is going on.... |

Hootman: You don't need a Korean to call immigration. Call them yourself. I don't think you have a full month to get out of the country. Never rely on 2nd hand information, especially translated info.

You can get a full month if you go into immigration and ask. Otherwise you need to be out of country as of midnight on the expiration date of your visa |

Going from a hagwon to a public school is easier. they give you a letter of appointment and that's like your visa number. you just need the letter of release, appointment letter and contract and go to the immigration office and get your visa transfered over. |

Good post, but I promise my info is legit. Where we differ is the letter of release. Without getting into personal/work specifics, my situation is very real and has been verified by my old employer, new employer, myself and some other in-the-know teachers in a similar situation. My previous employer won't do an early letter of release. If they did, I could lose vacation, severance, plane ticket, etc. My new employer also is unable/unwilling to start a contract earlier. Neither employer wanted to lie to immigration or fudge/change records for convenience purposes and enter a gray area. Remember, I had week between contracts and would be gone more than 2 weeks on vacation before my old contract ended.
Many people could adjust their schedules, get more flexible employers, even change personal vacation dates. Not me. And in any situation like mine, immigration is unwilling to process documents faster for a new visa or make changing employers an option for people leaving on vacation before contracts finish. I rest the shitty process and timing on immigration and the fact that no immigration officer has ever walked the path of an E-2 holder, much less a one with a spotless history. |

Everything was worked out. Getting tons of different answers from immigration on different days was horrible. Then learning it will take so long to get a new visa in my situation. |

Well I really hope they can get their act together and make it a CLEAR process so we all know what to do and how and when.
Madness. |
