Ok so here is the situation.
1.I'm due to leave Korea at the end of August.
2.I am going to travel for a while through Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia and then I'm off to New Zealand for probably another 3 months.
3.During that 3 months in Nz I will begin to look for another job teaching but what country I'm not sure.
4.I have begun to sell off most of my things. There are some things that I still want to hold on to like important documents, my laptop, and a few other personal items.
5.I don't want to backpack with these items on me.
6.I don't really trust anyone here enough to leave all my important things with to have it shipped to me at a later date.
I'm trying to think out all the different options available to me.....
I'm drawing a blank
Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Nobody?!
Basically, is there a storage company who will post stuff for you if it's pre-boxed... or does the post office have a service where you can retain stuff there until needed? If not then I think you're out of luck.

Easy, send your stuff by slow mail to your family or a friend in NZ. It should be there by the time you're finished travelling (it took about 2-3 months from Korea to Australia for me). It's really cheap, about 30-40,000 for 20kg. |

I have thought about sending it to Nz did you send expensive things like laptops? What did you do about duty and taxes when you sent it?
I'm actually from Canada so not to sure how it works there... |

I've tried to isolate the different aspects (eg. personal, bulky, & intimate) of the situation you've outlined.
Could these steps, or some variation, work?
a) Transfer yr laptop's HD contents to an external HD;
b) then reformat yr laptop's HD (so erasing yr personal data from yr laptop);
c) sell your laptop in Korea (buying a replacement later in NZ or wherever you next teach?); and,
d) take the (much smaller) external HD and yr important documents on all or part of yr travels (eg. leaving them in Thailand on yr way in, picking them up after yr Cambodia & Laos junkets?).
Alternatively, do a) & b), but, instead of c), what about offering - on Daves's Buy & Sell Board, say - to give some of your for-sale items to anyone who would store and later ship yr (presumably not intimate) laptop and other personal items to you at yr next teaching location?
Good luck! And pls let us know how you handle it all. |
