Thundarr,
Don't be outraged about being ranked below Wisconsin. Be outraged that Clemson is 9 spots ahead of you!!! But as an SEC man you know rankings suck and always favor the teams who only have to play 1 or 2 tough games a year. Were the Volunteers in the BIG 10 or BIG 12, you'd always be preseason top 10 |

Because they've been able to lose the BCS title game two years straight? I mean, I havent seen such a strong commitment to second place since the Buffalo Bills set the gold standard for chronic mediocrity in the mid 90s.
that and the sweater vest must have some sort of hypnotic effect on the easily amused. Cuz Heaven knows lil' Jimmy has about as much charisma as Cleveland after its shoreline catches on fire...... again. |

they play usc in cali this year early.
I expect OSU to go onto to the championship game if they win that..and likewise USC. Actually you could say the same thing about USC as regards schedule. PAC 10 is pretty mediocre.
Anyway i think you are answering your own question. these polls are supposed to predict how the teams will stack up at the end of the year(i assume)..therefore osu schedule if it is so easy..it should be in their favor. Same with usc. i don't see georgia finishing 1 as they will do amazingly well, if they lose only two. i don't see a team with two losses making it again this year.
If OSU has one loss and a win over USC or vice versa,,then that team will be in the championship game ahead of a two loss georgia.
As far as chronic mediocrity goes..i think getting to the nat champ game doesn't qualify as mediocre. |

Hey, if being Number Two floats yer boat, more power to ya.
In fact, I know quite a few Ohians who are more than satisfied being Number two..... in more ways than one. |

Being number two, neither floats my boat or yanks my chain. I was just pointing out that you had severely bastardized the word 'mediocre'. 6-6 would be mediocre.
I'm not an Ohian or a OSU fan.
BTW if that kicker had made the kick for buffalo would that have catupulted them from 'mediocre' to 'great'. Its amazing that you see no middle ground between those. By those standards, New England and their 18-1 season last year was 'mediocre'. |

Chase Daniel is back at the helm for my Mizzou Tigers. Oklahoma will always be a tough test.
Look for another Heisman opportunity for this sharpshooter. |

Georgia is going to choke. I have my money on Florida winning the SEC.
Even if USC beats Ohio State, they are going to drop a game to some big underdog for no apparent reason.
The ACC is a deeper league than most people give them credit for. The middle of the pack ACC teams are far better than Middle of the pack Big 10, Big 12, PAC 10, and Big East teams. Miami and Florida State will be back to prominence. In the next 4-5 years I see the ACC being a powerhouse equal if not greater than the SEC with teams like:
Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and BC leading the pack.
Remember, the only thing that is dragging the ACC down is the downtime of Miami and FSU. Those 2 continue to dominate recruiting and will make it back. |

With their schedule, that means they lose 4 or 5. Thats a bold statement.
Looking at their schedule, it is probable that they would lose two.
As far as the ACC, I could see Miami, FSU, Clemson and VA tech making it a great conference but Auburn, Bama, LSU, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee have even those teams covered. If any of those mississippi teams can ever lock down that state(top 3 in nfl players per capita) look out.
This is going to sound out there, but with South Florida and Rutgers making strides, the Big East might be relevant in a few years. |

What seems closer to the truth is that theres little to no difference in the potential of the top ten or dozen teams in the country, or between the next ten or dozen after them, or the next twenty or so after that, and so on, and the eventual order within these groups is nearly random

By far the best college football blog, I've come across. Probably because
I've yet to see 'SEC speed rulez" or other inanities on there. Great analysis and a complete lack of homerism. Check it out. BTW his top 5 is
Florida
USC
Oklahoma
OSU
Georgia. |

This is going to be a BIG year for Texas Tech. QB Graham Harrell is developing as a first round NFL pick, and WR Michael Crabtree won the Biletnikoff award for WR of the year in the NCAA last season, AS A FRESHMAN.
Read all about Crabtree-
