Here is the e-mail i got today from the Korean Embassy in the UK regarding the Disclosure Scotland Checks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subject: Re : Criminal Record Check
Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2008 11:30:55 +0100
Dear Sir/Madam
The Disclose Scotland Criminal Check is acceptable.
You should get an appostile stamp from Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Please, find the attached documents.
Visa section, The Korean Embassy
So there you go Brits apply for your Crim Checks this way its much quicker. |

Roger that, well you cant go too wrong if the Korean embassy in the UK is saying ok. If it was the other way around then i wouldnt be so sure.
However if you want conformation from the KR embassy in Japan then call em up.
Besides you dont send your check to them you send it to Korea where they generate your visa number. If this is your first time going to KR and you are a Brit then you can't apply from Japan anyway. You must go home first. Im lucky (or not depending on how you look at it) cus i have already done one year in KR. That means i can apply for work there from any country. Im in Thailand.

Yes theres lots to do before getting into KR this time. However this also varies according to which area and which application process you take. Im lucky because my agent deals directly with the schools. The three governing bodies are SMOE, GEPIK and EPIK. As you probably know. Each of them vary in their requirements regarding Degrees. Some will accept your degree as it is along with your transcripts, others require it to be copied and noterised by the Uk government or embassy. Its a real head ache for sure. If applying for uni, well yep thats even harder and that process is even more indepth. Stick at it and you'll be alright.
Depending on the Uni your going to, I mean most PS pay more and offer better conditions than Unis in KR anyways. Check that out before making any decisions. |

They're softening up on the visa requirements again 
The only thing I hate worse than them suddenly tightening the screws is them letting them loose all over again. Makes all the hassle we went through 6 months ago seem like a big waste of energy.
I wish koreans would just make rules and then stick to them, no matter what. Then you know where you stand. Instead we have to put up with these periodic media sensation- related beurocratic hissy fits they have. |

I wouldn't call this a softening up of the requirements. The basic check is still strong enough to weed out anyone convicted of a sex offence - against children or otherwise, and other serious offences that attract a custodial sentence of more than 2 years - which are never spent. Of course, all unspent convictions are revealed meaning that anyone with a a recent criminal history would be caught out too. |

I agree with you mate. I checked that out also, the Disclosure Scot Basic check holds the same info as the subject access anyway. In fact by law the Subject access is for your eyes only and is not to be shown to an employer. The Disclosure Scot check is legal and can be shown. Its good enough and will highlight all those that might be of risk. |

The Subject Access was designed as part of the Freedom of Information Act, to allow individuals to see what information the police held on them. It was never meant to act as a criminal record check.
The term basic disclosure is misleading. There's nothing basic about it. Some people seem to think this disclosure only highlights major crimes. Not so. All unspent cautions and convictions are listed. The time offences take to become spent depend on it's severity.
The full disclosure shows even spent cautions, but only British organizations (not individuals) can apply for one. |

| For Brits who have done the CRC check from this end in Korea.......how long does it normally take for you to get the whole CRC check and apostille done from start to finish and receive it? |

Basic Disclosure is meant to be done in 10 working days.
So,
request form - 0
arrives at firends house - 3
arrives with you - 10
returned to friend - 17
at disclosure scotland - 20
processed - 30
arrives at friends - 33
arrives with you - 36
get it notarized in Korea - same day.
Amirite? |

Dude, i know you must be frustrated but this is a crazy prediction. If you really believe all that then try getting your Subject access that should drive you insane.
It doesnt take all that long for BDS to get sorted. As long as they have all your details youll be alright. Try to be a little more postive. If this is your first time going to korea then this is just the tip of the ice berg when coming to red tape and problems.
You will see soon enough. |
