Enough about how odd Koreans can seem. . I've noticed that the monotony of the life here- particularly in small towns, can bring out the wierdness( at least temporarily) in the most sane ESL teacher.

C'mon, give us the dirt: what've YOUdone to/in front of them?

I accidently swore at a taxi driver, when I was just begining to learn Korean ( slight similarities to the name of my destination) Embarassed

wouldn't say wierd...but rude...

once saw a bunch of frat type guys outwardly calling korean girls "skanks" and "ho's" in front of their faces in a bar. They were also trying to get the girls to repeat the words "choke the chicken". The girls just giggled because they had no clue what those words meant. Seems as though the guys were really getting a kick out of the "language barrier".

I was checking into a flight once and the translator in the office was there too, teasing me, and trying to get the attendant to give me a crap seat. So I shouted (not sure of the spelling)
" !"
which she'd told me a couple of days previously meant "Stop acting crazy!", but juding by the l Shocked Shocked k on both of their faces is actualy somewhat stronger than that. Ah well, it was her fault.

Last year I was standing at a bus stop waiting for a bus. Another one pulled up, waiting for people to go on, but it must have stayed there about five minutes, and the entire time, a man in the back was staring at me. No expression on his face, just staring. I stared back and his gaze didn't waver. I was in a rush to get somewhere and had just grabbed a burger from Mickey D's and was eating it as I stood there. After a couple more minutes I opened my mouth and let him have a good long stare at my nicely chewed mouthful of burger. It wasn't till after the bus left that it occurred to me he was probably the father of one of my students. At that point, I didn't much care though. Razz

A few... And yeah, I realize I'm not that mature.

Was riding the bus one time, and was stopped at a set of lights. Two younger boys standing outside at the stop were totally staring at me. So as the bus drove away I stuck out my tongue at them, and had a good laugh.

Another time was waiting at the lights to cross the street. A taxi driver was again, completely staring. So I nonchalantly began picking my nose, a real good one, had my finger pretty far up. When the light turned green I walked confidently across. Hey if they want to stare, might as well give them something to stare at.

Was in a cab once and had picked up a phone from work as my home land line wasn't working, and I was just borrowing it for the night. Got in the front seat of the cab and had this massive desk phone on my lap. Picked up the receiver and shouted "yobosaeyo?, ney, odie ae?" and so on in Korean. The driver gave me a look and asked if I was a gagman? We had a good laugh.

I let a gay man come on to me, not realising until i sobered up what had happened and why i had his number in my wallet.

He told me to call him the next time i was in Gwangju. No way am i going to do that.
