Not that I'm complaining--these last several nights have been terrific for sleeping. No air con after sundown. Hurray. Pleasant breeze through the apt in the mornings.

It's just that I've been dreading those days when it is so humid that you can barely see the mountains for the haze...nights so hot that half the city migrates to the river to sleep on blankets.

We're already at the end of the first week in August. Normally, decent weather doesn't happen until September. Kudos to Pres. LMB, if he's the one in charge of the weather.

I was wondering the same thing! All year all I heard was, "Korea has the worst summers. So hot. You can't even breathe. Blah, blah, blah." Now, we are in August and this summer hasn't been anything particularly special. It's hot, yes. But, nothing unbearable imo. I've spent summers in New York City - New York City - that, from what I remember, were of equal if not greater heat than here.

Turn on a fan and grab a beer. People just like to have something to complain about.

It's the obsessive use of aircon, it must be cooling the country down Laughing

It had precisely the opposite effect. Air-con duct generate a tremendous ammount of heat. In addition, air-con uses a lot of electricity, whose production generates heat and pollution.

I love my aircon, although i think its the reason why i am sick. Do I want to be sick or hot. I chose to be sick in a nice cold apt!!

I need to change the vent or something since the thing had not been run in over 6 months.

OP, props for not running the air con, you have been in Korea a long time haven't you?? Smile

Maybe it's the Canadian contingent that elevates Korea's heat to mythical status. Actually, when I think of it, it's the Koreans themselves. Koreans are perpetually shocked, shocked I say, by how hot it gets in the place that they've lived all their lives. Those fours seaons are a continual marvel to them.

Exactly, the aircons are cooling more than the heat they output due to doors/windows being left open. Twisted Evil

Just curious - did you guys who use the aircon frequently grow up with it? I think I've used it all of 12 hours so far this summer, set between 26 and 28 degrees. I'm from New England where the summers aren't really all that bad and only my richest friends had A/C systems. It was muggy, sure, but not like some other parts of the world.

I don't know if it's the feel or the cost (this place must have NO insulation) or the noise of the A/C, but I just can't really bring myself to use it in my apartment except on the hottest, muggiest days.

I am constantly amazed at how Koreans can't tolerate their own climate. It seems as if they suffer the heat worse than I do in summer. As for winter, I'm really shocked at their low tolerance for cold weather.

It's in the 90's today, I think that qualifies as summer weather.

Why even have the initial sentence here when, after you decided to think instead of simply respond with dribble, you go a completely different route? You just want to agitate people.

You're a people agitator is what you are,
Ryan

P.S. Canadian summers, depending on the area of course, are as hot and humid as any other western country.

It's hot in Korea from May to early September.

If you think it's "pleasant and cool" today, you sat inside with the AC blasting.

Koreans seem to be able to handle the hot weather.

The cold weather must not be so bad for them since so many young ladies still wear micro-mini skirts even in the dead of winter. Wink
