I will be starting a one on one class tomorrow. The mom only wants free talking, no book. Any ideas? Links for free talking topics/questions.

The aim off that class is not to acquire more vocab or grammar, but is mainly aimed at making them more fluent in simple communications.

What you first need to do is establish their "Actual" level and then see what are the first priorities.

3rd grade doesn't actually mean anything.

That's fine as a concept, but what if the student has little or no vocabulary to talk with? You need to meet the student in advance before agreeing to this.

Maybe bring some photos and ask him to tell a story about the people in the picture or something? But it still requires some level of English. If he doesn't have any, at least the pictures can be used for vocabulary. At some point of non-fluency you just have to tell the woman that her son can't have free-talking lessons at that level. I hope it doesn't have to come to that for you. Come prepared for something in case he doesn't speak well enough.

I didn't read through the thread, just the OP's post. I know you said the mother wants no books, but there is a freetalking kinda book called "Children's Talk". You could try that. It's basically full of topics with some questions.
