And how is this going to give the ostracised wae-guk the incentive to change his mind and stay the extra year? Even if the staff are friendly, there are still foreigners who have long term goals to tend to back in their home countries. Who could blame them?
Yes, it is a vicious cycle. However, planning to stay for a year is only a neutral attitude. Ostracising the temp is a negative attitude. Guess who's in the wrong? |

I won't guess man because you allready decided who was wrong....
The staying for a year is not the point. Its the attitute some take towards the job that could, read c-o-u-l-d explain the reluctance of the Korean co-workers to side with the foreign teachers in certain situations.
If the foreign teacher is truly trying to make changes that will be beneficial to the entire staff in the mid to long term then he or she will most likely get support.
If on the other hand the foreign teacher is simply looking for a quick fix that will only benefit good ole number 1 then why oh why would any korean co-worker side with him or her when this could have negatice consequences for them in the long term? |
