I came to Korea on E-7 visa in June, 2008 for one year contract. However, the nature of duties is beyond my field of specialization and I made up my mind to quit. One option would be that I go back to my country. But my employer says he will receive penalty with which he can not invite other foreign employees if I go back in the initial six months of the contract. So, he denies to formally terminate the contract which is supposed to be done in the immigration office.

If I get job offer from another institutes with similar duties, and if my employer agrees to give me written consent to work in that institutes, does he still need to pay penalty and can not invite other foreign employee for a certain period? If he is not supposed pay penalty, I want ask him to provide me written consent. Anyone wellknown with this kind of situation, please shed some light on this kind of dilemma.

He can not keep you if you want to go home. That's too bad for him. Give notice and leave on the last day of said notice. You are not a prisoner here.

Wow. Less than two months in and you want to leave already. Either get your employer to agree to let you leave amicably (provide you with an LOR) or just stick with it. As long as he's not complaining, what's the problem? Many here do their jobs well, yet lose those jobs because of complaining parents or students. You have it lucky. If the real reason you want to leave is because you hate it, that is another matter altogether.

The only other option is doing a runner. You alone must weigh the pros and cons of that move.
