Hey!
I got a weekend Hana-tour Tokyo trip. I've been all over the net and gotten a few ideas of what I want to see but there's one thing that's kind of recent and I don't know where it is - the sauna where the teeny fish exfoliate by nibbling on your toes. I want to try that. Anyone know where that is?
Also, can any teckie-nerds help steer me to the bitchingest digital gadgets/games display in Tokyo? I think the Sony building is a safe bet with the games display there, but I was kind of hoping there's a permanent Tokyo Exposition where I can see up-and-coming cool digital stuff, things like the brain opera where you stand in a booth and make music by waving your limbs around, weird shit like that.

Not sure where the sauna with the fish is... but I recently recommended to another guy on here if you want a good onsen in downtown Tokyo, go to LaQua in Shiodome (right by Tokyo Dome, there's a big complex and amusement park nearby), it's a good quality one.

For tech stuff your best bet will be Akihabara, it's a huge area with massive dept. stores full of electronics (like Yodobashi camera - don't miss it) as well as side streets full of smaller stores. There are also many shops there for nerds full of anime and games etc. (you could even try a "maid cafe" if you want a unique experience).
You can find this area easily, just get off at Akihabara station on the Yamanote line (the main Japan Rail line that goes in a circle).
The Sony building is in Ginza, easiest way is to take the Marunouchi line to Ginza station, you can walk to it from there in 5 minutes.
Another place to see some tech stuff is around the Toyota pavilion on Odaiba (to get there take the "Yurikamome" monorail from Shimbashi JR station over the rainbow bridge - it's a big artificial island in Tokyo bay). Last time I was there they had these robot things that humans could mount like a kind of "mech" in a video game and walk around on.
The Tokyo Big Site on Odaiba sometimes has huge technology expos as well.

| Akihabara station - and Yodobashi camera is where I'm hoping to find electric train sets *shinkansen and JR rail models* and some scaled skyscrapers for my setup. If anyone knows where model hobby shops at Akihabara station are, please let me know. |

There's a whole floor at yodobashi camera for only toys, and that includes stuff for adults like train sets etc. and for otaku (manga action figures etc.). It's really big, probably over a square kilometer full of the stuff, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.
If not I recall there are a few smaller shops on the main street for model enthusiasts, can't remember exactly where but if you walk around you'll probably see something. |

By the way, since you say you're into model trains, I just noticed on the Tokyo Big Site page that they're having a big model train expo there from the 8th to the 10th. I'm sure it'd be interesting. Here's the links:

Just to offer a few small corrections if I may:
It's a little confusing since Yodobashi camera actually has several locations in Tokyo as well as around Japan. But the picture in your first link is the one in Osaka (Umeda) - it's huge as well but the one in Akihabara is a bit bigger I think (being the flagship store). It's freaking enormous. Also the map you gave is for the one in Shinjuku, which frankly probably has most of the same stuff in it, but if you want to hit the biggest one you got to go Akihabara (the exit at Akihabara station is actually connected right to "Yodobashi Akiba" so you can't miss it). |

Thanks! I printed out that map and had it in my moleskine city guide, delete delete!! That's what I get for doing a hasty search on google images...

I've been collecting locomotives and various cars for them the past 10 years, but I don't have any Japanese trains - I've heard they can be pricey, so I don't think I'll be able to get more than a couple of buildings and one or two complete train sets. Just a beginner really. |

| Haven't been there but I'd reckon the Samurai sword museum would be awesome just for having so many of such quality/antiquity in one building. |

I'm having a hard time finding the Chuo or Sobu subway lines on the Tokyo subway map. They are the lines I need to take to see this Nicorai Russian Orthodox Cathedral that is interesting for historical reasons and is kind of pretty.
Sobu line in the wikipedia says to connect onto it at Chiba Station but I can't find Chiba Station on the Tokyo subway map. It also says I can get there from Akihabara Station which I found, but no lines from Akihabara show any eventual Ochanomizu Station (the station for Nicorai/Nicholai Cathedral).
I may have to give that one up. Maybe there's a Tokyo tourist info email online. |
