I'm not clued up on technology and am considering buying a Toshiba notebook with the AMD Turion 64 x 2 TL-60 2.0GHz processor. Is this a decent/reliable processor? I won't be using it for gaming, only general internet use (surfing, downloading) and word processing etc. Most of the laptops i've looked at have Intel Dual Core processors. How does the AMD compare keeping in mind what I'll be using the notebook for.
Cheers in advance for any advice.

That processor harbors more power than you need for your purposes. Any dual-core processors in this era are more than overkill for surfing the web, word processing etc. And I can assure you that AMD is just as reliable as any Intel processors, and speed wise they are comparable.

What he said. If that's all you're going to do then I would be looking at CPU's based on things other than speed. Find out the power drain and weight- if you're going to be carrying it a lot.

You might want to consider a netbook with an Atom if you don't want the power and would like a low weight lappy.

Kohjinsha, EEEPC, MSI, HP, Fujitsu and Dell all have, or are making subkilo laptops for 400,000-800,000.

In terms of processing power AMD and Intel are about the same.

In terms of battery usage, Intel is quite a bit better.

Budget wise, AMD is better. I've used AMD for many years for this reason before coming back to Intel again because of its better handling of battery power.
