As a recently posted Internet video clip of elementary school students writing curses directed at President Lee Myung-bak causes public outrage, police yesterday launched a probe into the incident.

Principal Kim Hak-won of the childrens school on Tuesday accused an anti-U.S. beef protester of setting up the whole video, causing the Masan East Police Precincts cyber crime investigation team to begin an investigation.

Saying they dont yet know who actually shot the clip, police said yesterday they have discovered the identity of the person who posted it. The 51-second video was put on the Internet by 31-year-old Baek Seong-gyun, police said, one of the six main organizers of anti-U.S. beef demonstrations of the past few months.

Baek, who has been wanted by police since July 5, is participating in an anti-U.S. beef sit-in at the Jogye Temple, where the organizers of the rallies have been holed up.

The clip shows six students writing anti-Lee notes such as, I will kill you on the temples guest book while visiting from Masan, South Gyeongsang on a field trip.

Baek operates anti-U.S. beef Web site Michincow.net (michin is a crude expression meaning crazy in Korean). He first posted the video clip on the online blog of the sit-in protesters on Aug. 1 and a day later deleted the file, police said.

Before he deleted it, however, the clip was disseminated by other users on a range of different Internet bulletin boards, including the countrys largest debate forum, Agora.

School officials are scheduled to give their statements tomorrow, said a police officer on the case requesting anonymity. We are at the beginning stages of the investigation, so we need more time.

"I will kill you."

Sounds ominous, but Koreans say that all the time to each other.

And only do so every once in a while.
